    Daniel L. Guevara, partner in the law firm of Castillo and Guevara Professional Corp., is the newest Centre City Development Corp. board member. A native of Mexico City, Guevara began his legal career in 1976 in the office of San Diego’s city attorney. Before forming his present partnership, the SDSU grad held positions in other law firms and practiced solo. In addition, he has served as a city planning commissioner.

    California Western School of Law has a new dean and president: Steven R. Smith, previously dean of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law at Cleveland State University in Ohio, is inaugurated May 2 at the Hyatt Regency San Diego.

    CB Commercial first v.p. M. David Rothschild has transferred from Phoenix to the company’s Downtown San Diego office. Also at CB, John Shafer is the new information technology manager. He previously was a computer services manager with New Horizons Computer Learning Center.

    Douglas E. Barnhart (Douglas E. Barnhart Inc.) is new chairman of the Associated General Contractors Naval Facilities Engineering Command Committee. AGC is a nationwide trade association of more than 32,500 firms.

    Trizec-Hahn Centers, Trizec-Hahn Corp.'s retail subsidiary, welcomes Richard P. Welcome as senior v.p., development. He previously was executive v.p. of Homart.

    Scott A. Bedingfield and James P. Scharbarum II are new v.p.s at Cavignac & Associates Insurance Brokers.

    Maxwell Technologies Federal Division names Michael Kropf to the newly created position of business development director. He previously was product line director for TV/COM.

    Grubb & Ellis 1996 National Rookie of the Year is local broker Christine Anderson, who specializes in the Hospitality Properties Division. It is the first time a San Diego County broker has been so honored.

    Longtime San Diego sporting goods executive Norm Peck, former CEO and president of Ektelon Corp., joins the American Council on Exercise as assistant executive director. And Jean Walcher is ACE's new director of public relations. She hails from Capener, Matthews & Walcher, the firm her mom, Laura Walcher, founded.

    Specialty menswear retailing veteran Peter Valletti takes the title of executive v.p., general merchandise manager, for San Diego-based Pacific Eyes & T's. He comes from County Seat Stores in Dallas, where he held a similar position.

    Imperial Bank senior v.p. Kathleen Berry moves up to manager of the bank's Real Estate Division. She is based Downtown.

    Karen Gilbert joins Grossmont Bank as human resources officer. Previously h.r. and benefits manager for First National Bank, she is stationed at GB's administrative offices in the Golden Triangle. New at Grossmont Bank's El Cajon office are Charlotte Buse and Ray Jones, both v.p./commercial loan officers; and Marilyn Krutz and Stanna Pich, financial service reps.     Former San Diego Historical society Development Director Nichole Keith now fills a similar position with The Children's Museum of San Diego.

    Health care design consultant Jain Malkin (Jain Malkin Inc.) takes the Hyde Chair of Excellence at the University of Nebraska College of Architecture. She is the first interior designer named to the post, which most often is awarded to renowned architects.
