Loving The Padres
I know I join with the vast majority of my friends and associates in the North County financial world, and with my friends and neighbors where I live in Scripps Ranch in strongly backing the proposed new Downtown ballpark for the San Diego Padres.
I have attended every Padre opening day since 1969, and prior to that enjoyed Padre baseball at Westgate Park.
The new park would add new economic vitality and pride to America's Finest City, and it is particularly exciting to think of it being so near to the Gaslamp, Convention Center, trolley line and the Embarcadero. Add my voice to the growing chorus backing our new San Diego Downtown Padre ballpark.

As a business owner and citizen of San Diego, I appreciate greatly the efforts of the Ballpark Task Force in helping us to secure a site for the new ballpark. The crowning jewel would be a new ballpark Downtown.
Debates have raged but I believe that we’ll find that, as cities like Denver and Baltimore, that a Downtown ballpark will serve to continue the revitalization that has gone on in San Diego. This means not only more jobs and revenue for our local businesses, but a terrific place for all of us to enjoy a quality ball team.

The Padres management and players have become important, compassionate neighbors. The Padres' many programs benefitting our children through scholarships, baseball camps, Little Padre Parks and charities that benefit victims of cancer and cystic fibrosis have shown a remarkable concern for our community.
Let's keep the Padres right here in San Diego…where they belong!

Wow, talk about letters. In the course of about three weeks, we received 62 (actually, 61, since one came twice) submissions in support of the Padres and a Downtown ballpark. The bulk of the letters were hand addressed to me, Editor Tim McClain, and 50 came sporting yellow rose flower stamps. Seven had flag stamps and five were faxes. All were copies. Three of the letters appear above; we’ve read others elsewhere. Under contract with the Padres for a separate project, Spear/Hall & Associates, on its own — President Shelly Hall is a baseball nut — collected the missives and is using them to demonstrate support for a Downtown ballpark. And while some PR agencies resort to making up letters, these all appear to be real.

It is so good to read another well-researched food column from someone who is right in the middle of the action. I look forward to Terryl's (Gavre) insights on what’s going on in the culinary area of America's Finest City.
I can picture her now walking the Gaslamp (waffle on head), getting right into the kitchens, talking to the chefs, interviewing the Maitre d's, and getting the scoop on all the news. I particularly like that she knows what’s going on before it happens. How does she do that and run a successful business? She is what is good about the people of our town.
