An Apology, Yes; A Cover, Hmm
I’ve always had the utmost respect for your publication, the San Diego Metropolitan. I have found your reporting to be of the highest possible professional degree and at all times extremely accurate.
However, after reading the section of the San Diego Scene entitled "Finally, Bridgeworks Breaks Ground," I was amazed to find the inaccuracy reported in the statement that "Roel Construction Co., the general contractor, has hired Kip Howard's Allegis Development to manage the project." While, as always, we are extremely appreciative of any favorable press, and although Roel is a fine, outstanding local construction company which I would be honored to be affiliated with, I must inform you that we are working with the owner of the project, S.D. Bridgeworks, serving as development manager and owner's representative. We have worked with Jeremy Cohen on and off for the past five years, and are thrilled to see this outstanding project finally become a reality.
Please rest assured that your inaccurate reporting will in no way tarnish the stellar reputation which your publication holds in our opinion. However, this mistake could be immediately rectified by having our company featured on the cover of San Diego Metropolitan in an upcoming issue.

Allegis Development Services Inc.
Not Really 'Fired'
I would like to comment on an article written by John R. Lamb entitled "Business Year in Review" (December, 1998). I refer specifically to the section listed under the month of November, 1998.
"With sales far behind projections, Molecular Biosystems Inc. plans to fire 48 employees from its workforce of 148 and outsource its manufacturing operations. The staff reduction is expected to save the local biotech $5 million annually."
As one of the 48 people, I take exception to the word "fired." None of us were fired; we were laid off as part of a major restructuring/downsizing. Another 40-plus employees will be leaving in March or April of this year. Most of us were long-term employees — dedicated and hard-working — and it was a very difficult time all around. Everyone (except Mr. Lamb, apparently) knows the difference between being fired and being laid off. We were let go for many reasons, but individual poor performance was not one of them. Don't insult us by lumping us with former employees who have left "to pursue other interests." We know what THAT really means.
