Look for Buca Di Beppo to open in the spring. I attended the opening of the Buca Palo Alto and Buca Seattle and believe me, they will make quite a splash. The concept is loud and crazy 1950s family-style Italian. The well-planned mishmash decor and singing, hand-clapping waiters will be quite a contrast to the chic "men in black" Italian neighborhood they are moving into. *** The Westgate Hotel is collaborating with San Diego Performing Arts League & Appel for the first-ever arts and culture extravaganza, Bravo San Diego "Celebrating Arts & Business Partnerships." The gala will be held Nov. 20, 5:30 to 10 p.m. It will bring together dozens of live artistic and visual performances, staged simultaneously throughout the Westgate, along with gourmet cuisine from leading chefs of the world. Proceeds go to the Business Volunteers for the Arts program. A performance by the San Diego Symphony conducted by Jung Ho Pak opens the event. Tickets are $100. Call (619) 238-0700, Ext. 21 for more information. *** Blue Point Coastal Cuisine has named Marshall Blair as new executive chef. Blair spent two years in the Riviera at La Mas Longostier on the Isle de Porquelles. He also enjoyed a stint as a chef at the well-known Charlie Trotter's in Chicago. *** René Herbeck, a Michelin star award winner, is the new executive chef of North County's Twins Restaurant. (Twins is located in the Lumberyard project in Encinitas.) Herbeck has a long and impressive résumé, including many years at Marius Restaurant and his most recent position at the Westgate's Le Fontainebleau. *** Hillcrest's Terra, Cuisine of the Americas reports Reid Sinderud has been promoted from chef to executive chef. Sinderud is a California Culinary Academy graduate who began his career as a pastry chef. After working his way up to lead banquet cook at the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club, Sinderud accepted a sous chef position at Terra under Neil Stuart. Three months later, Sinderud lands the top cooking responsibilities following Stuart's departure to pursue his catering career. *** San Diego Paradise Point Resort has named Martin Nace Hall as director of catering. He replaces Peter Lassalette. Hall's background includes catering and sales with Hyatt hotels and most recently, the Sheraton Hotel Harbor Island. Also at the resort, Charles Golff has hired on into the new position of director of restaurants. Golff will oversee all restaurants and also will participate as a member of the resort's executive committee. His résumé includes g.m. positions at Rangoon Racquet Club and Il Cielo, located in Beverly Hills. Most recently, Golff served as director of restaurants for Le Meridien in Coronado and Boston. *** Being billed as 13 for $13 on the 13th of September (which just so happens to be my birthday) is the Heart of Pacific Beach Restaurant Walk. The walk runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., so you'll have the opportunity to mosey around Pacific Beach and try a variety of food from neighborhood restaurants including Lotsa Pasta, Lamont Street Grill and RT's Longboard Grill. For more information call Discover Pacific Beach, (858) 273-3303. *** Tom Felkner and Bob Lehman, owners of Bourbon Street, Sept. 8, 6 to 9 p.m., hold their annual wine-tasting cabaret event benefiting Mama's Kitchen. Southern Wine & Spirits provides the wine with hors d'oeuvres courtesy of TK&A Custom Catering and Behind the Scenes Catering. Tickets are $25. Every Friday evening this summer at 7:30 cabaret shows can be found at Harmony. *** The Hotel Del has named Giuseppe Lama as g.m.; it’s a new position. Lama will assist Michael Hardisty, managing director, in the operations for the Del. Prior to joining the property, Lama was with Westin Hotels, most recently serving as g.m. of Westin O'Hare.
