DOW Stereo/Video became part of Boston-based Tweeter Home Entertainment Group this month. But the voice of DOW, Tom Campbell, is not heading east to work for Tweeter. With his 18-year run at DOW now over, Campbell says he's mulling other options in San Diego Ð "there are a few doors open" Ð and may have something to announce shortly. Regardless, he expects to remain active in the community. Campbell is on the board of KFX Energy, and is a member of Washington, D.C.-based ICON Solutions, a think tank. Attorney William Griffith was named head of the city of San Diego’s Real Estate Assets Dept. Griffith established a construction and contracting company in Sydney, Australia, worked in publishing and marketing for Better Homes and Gardens and acquired sensitive property for The Nature Conservancy. Douglas Fouser, a Cubic Defense Systems executive for 11 years, was promoted to v.p. of the firm's newly created Tactical and Training Products division. Steven Horowitz, a former executive for Raytheon, was appointed v.p. to head Cubic's Australian Air Combat Training Systems program. He will live in San Diego. Sempra Energy's Darcel Hulse became a senior v.p. in charge of the daily operations of Sempra Energy International, Sempra Energy Resources and Sempra Energy Utility Ventures. Hulse worked for Unocal for nearly 30 years and was the company’s president of Asia-Pacific Ventures. Also announced by Sempra is the stepping down of Stephen Baum as chairman and acting president of Sempra Energy International to concentrate full-time on his principal role with the parent company as Sempra Energy's vice chairman, president and COO. John Grah was appointed administrator of Scripps Memorial Hospital in Chula Vista. Grah, who has 13 years of experience in the health care industry, was formerly the administrator of the Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky. Cox Communications named David Livengood as director of Broadband Process Improvement. Livengood has worked for Cox since 1986 and recently was director of marketing for Data Products in Atlanta. Broadcast veteran Michael Workman will direct the County Department of Media and Public Relations. Most recently he has been assistant news director of KLAS TV in Las Vegas. He also has worked for KNSD TV and KFMB TV, both in San Diego. As director, he will oversee a department of 21 staff members with a budget of $1.7 million. Janice Brown was appointed by the San Diego County Bar Association as the delegate to the American Bar Association conference in Atlanta this summer. Brown received the Department of Justice's "Outstanding Trial Lawyer" award in 1987 and the California Association of Black Lawyers' "Lawyer of the Year" award in 1995. The SDCBA also announced the election of Stephanie Sontag as the association's president in 2000. Sontag, a partner with Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch, campaigned with promises of interaction with specialty and minority bars, the initiation of a young lawyer mentorship program, and the enhancement of bar reputation through community involvement. Sandy Myers, account executive with Clear Channel Communications' outdoor advertising division, was elected 1999-2000 president of the Advertising Club of San Diego. Communications company Stoorza, Ziegaus & Metzger Inc. appointed Scott Maloni account supervisor in the firm's public affairs division. Previously, Maloni served as press secretary and spokesman for the "Yes on Prop. C" ballpark campaign and for the "Yes on Prop. L" branch library initiative drive. In 1997, he moved to San Diego from his Washington, D.C., home to serve as the press secretary and spokesman for Mayor Susan Golding. Julie Dillon and Reese Jarrett were appointed to the Centre City Development Corp.'s seven-member board to fill positions that opened following the end of the terms by Peter Davis and Gil Johnson. Dillon is president and owner of Dillon Development, while Jarrett is president of E. Smith & Company, general partner of Carter Reese & Associates and president of Max Developers. SupplyPro Inc. appointed Skip McDowell as executive v.p. of sales. McDowell's experience includes building and managing effective sales teams for several Silicon Valley firms. Former project engineer for Roel Construction, Brent Hughes was promoted to assistant project manager and is working on tenant improvements for Qualcomm's Las Vegas facility. Also promoted by Roel was Dawn Smith, from executive assistant to employee training and development manager. Newly hired was Steve Constable, superintendent working on the Scripps Breast Care Center, and Robert Campbell, assistant superintendent for the structural concrete group. Mark Bausback joins the renamed Graham Downes Architecture, formerly Graham Downes Design and Architecture, which recently moved to a new location at 770 11th St. Bausback, hired as a project manager, has 18 years of experience in retail and office projects. Previously he was with Carrier Johnson. Tony Wonseski, a registered civil engineer who worked on Pacific Coast Plaza in Oceanside, was named the first professional associate for Latitude 33, a La Jolla planning and engineering firm. Richard Imbra joined the Intellectual Property law firm of Brown, Martin, Haller & McClain. Imbra has seven years of experience practicing biotechnology patent counseling and prosecution in San Diego. Randy Smith was added to the sales team of Exponents, a custom modular exhibit manufacturer. Smith spent two years in membership development with the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce. WebGalaxy Inc. added four labor leaders to its United Labor Online Advisory Board: Jeffrey Fiedler, Food and Allied Service Trades Council of the AFL-CIO; Charles E. Johnston of the Laborers' International Union of North America; Joseph Poveromo of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers; and Greg Tarpinian of Labor Research Associates. With more than 25 years of experience, Robert Ducharme joined the UTC office of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter as associate v.p. and financial adviser. Estate and financial planning expert Harris Weisman was hired by the firm as first v.p. and financial adviser. The McQuerterGroup marketing communications agency promoted Jennifer Andrews to senior account executive; LaRae Spencer, to assistant account executive on the public relations team; and Karen Stadelmeier to corporate business development manager. William J. Collier, an attorney specializing in business, employment and public entity litigation, has joined the law firm of Stutz, Gallagher, Artiano, Shinoff & Holtz. The new Tiger Reprographics, which recently merged with California Graphics, named the following location managers: Eric Schmitz, formerly of Irvine-based OCB Reprographics, now g.m. for all San Diego operations; Kelly Wintermote, Mission Valley; Darlene Simpson and Mylaine Perry, sharing managerial duties at La Mesa. Shelley Morris, a former asset manager with 10 years of real estate experience, was hired as an associate by Burnham Retail Group. San Diego BayKeeper, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of coastal waters, named Bruce Reznick executive director. In addition to his experience in environmental advocacy and litigation, Reznick has managed several state and federally sponsored air quality improvement projects in Southern California. Kathleen Furness and William Browning joined Seltzer, Caplan, Wilkins & McMahon. Both are from McInnis, Fitzgerald, Rees & Sharkey. Safeskin Corp. named Bruce Garren as senior v.p. and general counsel. Garren most recently was v.p./ general counsel with Tambrands Inc. Continental Escrow Co. promoted Constance Knapp to new communities escrow officer in the builder division of the company. She has been an escrow officer since 1986. Donald Gladden was appointed estimator by Hazard Construction Co. He has 40 years in the heavy construction industry. Alliance Healthcare Foundation hired Olga de la Cruz-Cañon as a program officer responsible for identifying and developing new funding opportunities. Sociologist Hugh "Bud" Mehan was hired to direct Create, the Center for Research in Educational Equity, Assessment, and Teaching Excellence, at UCSD. A recently appointed member of the National Academy of Education, Mehan will oversee UCSD's K-12 partnership programs. San Diego native Chuck Wroot joined Shores Sales and Management in Coronado. Wroot spent 14 years in sales and rentals at the Coronado Shores Co., and before that was v.p. of First American Title Insurance Co. Bernard Zambrana is a newly hired project manager with David Evans and Associates Inc. He has more than 25 years of experience. The San Diego Historical society appointed John Panter an assistant archivist. Panter formerly was an archivist for the Fresno Historical Society. Daou Systems Inc. appointed Larry Grandia as CEO. He has been the company’s president since March of this year. He replaces Georges Daou, co-founder and former CEO, who will remain as board chairman. Carrier-Johnson architecture and design firm hired Jeff Causey as a senior project manager. Formerly with a San Francisco firm, Causey is now project manager for a library/information center at Cal State San Marcos and the twin-tower Marina Center Downtown. The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors approved appointment of Joseph Walker as a Water Authority representative to the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California board. He formerly served on the board, and now was appointed to replace a director who resigned. San Diego National Bank named Daryl Durham assistant v.p./network manager, responsible for the Wide Area Network, working in the Downtown office. For more than 10 years Durham has managed bank computer systems, most recently at La Jolla Bank & Trust. Elsie Marik is new assistant v.p./loan servicing for Neighborhood National Bank. Before joining the bank, she worked for First National and Scripps banks in loan operations and regulatory compliance. Clavelle Levin-Lake, manager of the main branch of Neighborhood Bank, was promoted to assistant v.p./regional manager. She was formerly with Wells Fargo Bank. Robert Hasse, Neighborhood CFO, was promoted to executive v.p. He joined the bank a year ago after 12 years with San Diego Capital Corp. Promoted to v.p./commercial banking officer for Peninsula Bank of San Diego was Hector Zatarain. He has been a corporate banking officer with Peninsula since he joined the bank in 1987. Also promoted was William McLennan, with Peninsula since 1990, to v.p./manager of the bank's San Diego real estate services department. C.W. Southwick joined Peninsula as v.p./senior real estate loan officer. She has more than 24 years of experience in real estate lending. Kisco Retirement Communities named Lary Simon as CFO for the nationwide firm, which has more than 1,600 units of housing and approximately 800 more units in development. Before joining Kisco, he was with MBK Real Estate Ltd. in Irvine, and its predecessor, Birtcher Real Estate Ltd. for more than 12 years. Jim Newcomb, past president of the San Dieguito Association of Realtors and co-chairman of the task force that formed the North San Diego County Association of Realtors, has rejoined Dave Stubbs Real Estate in Solana Beach. He started his career with Dave Stubbs in 1984 and left the company in 1990 to become a branch manager for Prudential California Realty. After six year with Pardee Homes, Jeffrey Lake was promoted to v.p. of architecture. Lake previously was assistant v.p/director of product development. Native San Diegan Kathy Dowell is now with Shea Homes as customer service manager and leader of the new Customer Care 2000 Program. Dowell has 20 years of customer service experience. Social work clinician Lisa Carroll is director of the Vista Hill Learning Assistance Center. Carroll previously was educational coordinator for the San Diego County Bar Association's Project Heartbeat. Scott Omohundro joined Duckor, Spradling & Metzger as a litigation associate. The Affiliates announced the promotion of Jonathan Perrelli to division director. Perrelli has seven years of legal experience. Assemblywoman Denise Ducheny named Jeff Gattas district director managing the day-to-day operations in her local office. Gattas was recently the San Diego regional director managing the campaign to elect Governor Gray Davis. Leap Wireless International Inc. promoted Steven J. Caliguri to v.p. of joint venture operations. Formerly the senior director of strategic marketing for Leap, Caliguri is currently responsible for the company’s operating divisions in Chile and Australia. Mark Hoaglin was named first v.p., business banking manager at Cal Fed Investments. He is a 20-year veteran in financial services. Real estate veteran Robert Caudill has joined Douglas Wilson Companies as regional director of leasing services for the company’s subsidiary Wilson-Mile High Properties. Accountemps promoted Dianne LaValley to division director. LaValley has more than 16 years of experience in retail management. Myssie Lauer joined the firm as a staffing manager. Thomas Jay Stout joined California Bank and Trust as vice president in the San Diego office of the Wealth Management Division. Alex Parra joined the San Diego office of David Evans and Associates as an engineering designer responsible for the preparation of designs for water, sewer, roadway, drainage, hydraulics, and other site developments. Claire Stanley, a nine-year marketing veteran, joined Bailey/Gardiner Creative Communications Inc. as an account executive in advertising. Mostré Design Inc. hired Deborah Gotfried as a corporate account executive for exhibit design sales in San Diego. Art Garner was promoted to v.p. of corporate development and special assistant to the president of Orincon, a technology research firm. Chuck Labitan was selected by the United States International University/Cal Western Alumni Association as the Alumni Association Volunteer of the Year. Labitan was honored for his work in coordinating the development of a new certificate program at the university. Karen Sztraicher, v.p. of accounting for GMS Realty since 1997, has been named CFO.
