August 8, 2000 Del Monte Foods Co. has entered into an agreement with Titan Corp. under which Del Monte will test Titan's SureBeam electronic pasteurization technology on select foods to heighten freshness characteristics and enhance quality and shelf life.
"We are committed to using the latest technological innovations to ensure that our consumers continue to receive from Del Monte the most nutritious and best tasting products on the market," says Richard G. Wolford, CEO of Del Monte. "Using Titan's SureBeam technology will allow us to expand beyond our existing product lines and provide new convenient extended shelf life products, packaged in plastic or glass, with enhanced freshness and top quality characteristics."
Similar to a microwave oven, the SureBeam system uses ordinary electricity as its energy source to instantly eliminate any harmful bacteria, thereby enhancing a food's quality and extending its shelf life without changing its taste or texture. Additionally, the method allows produce to be fully and naturally ripened before it is processed.

Kearny-Scripps LLC, a partnership led by Lankford & Associates Inc. and Kearny Real Estate Co., will break ground Aug. 15 on the Scripps Northridge Technology Plaza at Scripps Northridge Corporate Center.
The two-story, 98,000 square foot building, scheduled for completion in February 2001, is being built on spec with a flexible design for one to four tenants. The property will have available fiber-optic cabling, and other amenities will include 385 parking spaces, dock-high or grade-level loading doors and extensive landscaping.
Lankford & Associates has not released the building’s estimated market value.
Scripps Northridge Technology Plaza will be the fourth facility built at Scripps Northridge, located off Scripps Poway Parkway.
“This will be a very versatile facility that can meet a number of different needs that exist in this area,” says Robert V. Lankford, president and CEO of Lankford & Associates. “We envision it can be a corporate headquarters for a knowledge-based company looking to move to a location in central San Diego County. Or it can be a state-of-the-art research facility that needs high-speed, unlimited data connections. Or it can be a building that accommodates three or four smaller firms who complement and support the surrounding high-tech and other large businesses.”
The shell and core project plan and architecture is being designed by Davis & Davis Architects Inc. Hensel Phelps Construction Co. will be the shell general contractor.
Others participating are Divine Engineering, structural engineering; Neal Electric, electrical engineer; S B & O Inc., civil engineering; and Van Dyke Partnership, landscape architect.
Foundation work is scheduled for early September, with tilt-up panel and steel work set for November.
Scripps Northridge Corporate Center is one of the last fully entitled, master-planned business park sites on the I-15 corridor. Five pads remain available.
“Scripps Northridge is building out on schedule,” Lankford says. “The economy is still strong, and many firms are looking to move here to capitalize on the proximity to wireless and other technology firms. It’s created demand for both large-scale and smaller-scale premium office product, and this is one of the few remaining places where there’s room to meet that demand with few restrictions.”
Tom Mercer, Kevin Craven and Jay Alexander of Colliers International are the marketing team for Scripps Northridge.
