Latinas, Please
As a local Latina, I was proud to read your article on "The Growing Hispanic Influence" included in your Future Visions 2000 issue (January 2000).
I was, however, disappointed not to see any photographs of at least one of the many Latina leaders in our community. To have included a picture of Mary Salas or Maria Perman, women you interviewed for your article, would have given the casual reader a balanced view of the diverse leadership we have in the San Diego Latina community.

Former San Diegan Impressed
I am constantly amazed at the prestige of writers and the quality of articles being published in San Diego Metropolitan. The January edition, "Future Visions 2000," in my opinion was nothing short of great. It made fascinating reading for hours for this former San Diegan.
The special commercial report by Paul Tryon on government fiscal impact on new homes was a real complement and should be required reading for every politician at local, county and federal levels.
Sandwiched in between the thought-provoking articles and prognostications on San Diego’s future, I saw the ads on Sing Sing and its "dueling pianos." That sent my mind into a 10-minute nostalgia trip back through time to when Mickey Finn's was a hot spot in Hillcrest with Fred Finn playing a honky-tonk piano, accompanied by the alleged world's fastest banjo player, a college professor known as The Flying Dutchman. The two performed at major hotels in Las Vegas from time to time.
Keep up the good work. (And I still think somebody really goofed on over-fading the type on that December cover.)
