    Pacific Bell named John D. Hull as v.p. for the San Diego area. He replaces Marsha Lindsey who accepted the position of president of Nevada Bell. Hull previously was director of external affairs for Nevada Bell and is a 20-year veteran of SBC Communications, the parent company of Pacific Bell and Nevada Bell. In his new position, he will oversee external affairs for San Diego County.

    San Diego National Bank named Jim Holliman as senior v.p./construction lending manager, working out of the bank's Downtown office. Holliman previously was regional v.p. and manager for Tokai Bank of California in San Diego, specializing in financing large biotech and high-tech projects.

    Richard Rhode, formerly principal shareholder of San Diego-based Barney & Barney Insurance Brokers, has joined the Arrowhead Group of Companies. A 30-year insurance veteran, Rhode is president and CEO of the ArrowSource Division of the company.

    Jeanette Ding is the new staffing manager at Accountemps. Her experience includes four years in human resources in addition to seven years in accounting and finance.

    Cynthia Knisley is heading the newly formed legal division of TLC Staffing Inc. Knisley has more than 15 years of experience in legal outplacement and human resources.

    Stewart D. Hutcheson was named v.p. of business development for Leap Wireless International Inc. Before taking this position, Hutcheson led business development for Leap's subsidiary, Cricket Communications Inc.

    The new chief of health care operations for the six Scripps hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities is Chris Van Gorder. Before joining Scripps he was executive v.p. of Memorial Health Services and CEO of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.

    Patrick Loughlin, a client manager with Bank of America's Commercial Banking Group in Southern California, was promoted to senior v.p. Loughlin, who joined BofA in 1979 and is based in San Diego’s Downtown office, has been commercial client manager since 1995.

    Appointed to the board of the San Diego Symphony was Marilyn Allen Sawyer, a La Jolla resident. In addition to serving on several boards, Sawyer has been a career banker for 20 years.

    Three new positions at National University are held by Jeffrey Prinster, regional dean for southern and northern regions; Jan Littrell, director of online academic programming; and Vanessa Hanselman, student and alumni liaison to the president. Prinster began at National as an adjunct teacher in 1982. Littrell has been in administrative positions at Salk Institute of Biological studies and at SAIC. Among Hanselman's duties will be serving as ombudsman to the student population.

    Helen Baker was named executive director of the San Diego Advertising Club. Her experience in administration of nonprofit organizations includes San Diego County Crime Stoppers and the Greater San Diego Business Association.

    Rajika K. Hayden was promoted to director of business development of the offices of Baker & McKenzie. She has been with the law firm since 1991.

    Roel Construction hired Kelli Velde as administrative assistant for the IS department and Stacey Coughlin in the same capacity for the structural concrete group. Velde has seven years of computer and office experience. Coughlin has more than 10 years in the construction industry. Also new is Mike Stout, superintendent. He has 29 years of experience and recently owned M & S Construction. Promoted at Roel were Rachel Huffman and Rob Netzer, both from project engineer to assistant project manager. Huffman has been with the company for 10 years; Netzer for a year and a half.
    Hired by Roel Consulting were Greg Barnes, director of litigation services, and Jan Emerson, project coordinator. Barnes held the same position with Construction Contract Management Services Inc. in San Diego. Emerson, with 18 years of experience, was recently with Valentine Construction in San Diego.

    Rodney Loman is the new system-wide dean of the College of Organizational Studies at the California School of Professional Psychology. The position is new to the school, which has four campuses including the one in San Diego. He moved to the school in 1998 from Louisiana Tech University.

    East County Community Newspapers Inc., publishers of seven weekly newspapers, named Steve Dolan news editor. Formerly with El Cajon's Daily Californian, he has written for the Los Angeles Times, the San Diego Union-Tribune and the North County Times as well.

    Dr. William Sperling, a pulmonary specialist, was named the 1999 San Diego Physician Partner of the Year by Southern California Permanente Medical Group that serves Kaiser Health Plan members. He started the internal medicine residency affiliation with University Hospital 20 years ago and continues as a full medical professor at UCSD.
    Another Kaiser honor went to Dr. Jenny J. Devitt, oncology/hematology, who received the Elisabeth Schilling Award for Compassionate Care, named for a former Kaiser physician.

    Ana Rothman was named senior designer at Howard Sneed Architecture & Design. Her 16 years of experience include six years with this firm to which she is returning after a five-year hiatus.

    Aviv Fernandez joined the Monger Co. as a media relations account executive. The company specializes in governmental relations, advocacy and advertising.

    RSM McGladrey Inc. promoted Debra Miller Gilchrist to tax supervisor. She has been in the business seven years. Newly hired by the firm were Daniel Piombo and Theresa Kain.

    Two new principals named by Vasquez + Marshall & Associates are Shelley Bennett and Robert Bodenhamer. Both joined the firm in 1983. Bennett began as a receptionist and now is the firm's general manager. Bodenhamer started as a runner and now is senior project member.

    Media advertising and marketing firm Imaginactive hired Don Murphy as director of marketing. His duties will include outreach to minority-owned businesses.

    James H. West, CPA at West & Associates Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, was selected for the board of Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego Inc.

    Boyle Engineering Corp. hired Charles Heinrichs, retired vice commander of the Southwest Division of the Naval Facilities. As a senior engineer, Heinrichs will manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams in civil and transportation engineering.

    Dr. Joanne Chory, a professor at the Salk Institute for Biological studies in La Jolla, received one of five awards given by L'Oreal, the Helena Rubenstein "For Women in Science," for her groundbreaking research on the molecular biology of plants. She has been with the Salk Institute since 1988.

    Christopher Snowling joined the Rancho Bernardo office of Prudential securities Inc. Prior to joining Prudential, Snowling was a financial adviser with Legg Mason Wood Walker in Bethesda, Md. He is originally from San Diego.

    Estate planning attorney Jacqueline M. Skay joined the law firm of Hinchy, Witte, Wood, Anderson & Hodges. Her specialty is in trusts and wills, durable powers of attorney, probate, prenuptial agreements and conservatorships.

    Named chairman and CEO of Mohomine was technology entrepreneur Neil senturia. He founded Atcom/Info and was CEO of the software and software services firm before taking this position.

    Richard Myrick joined the Flowers Group advertising agency as v.p. of sales. Before taking this position, Myrick was with Advo Inc., a direct mail marketing company, for 15 years.

    Heying & Associates public relations and advertising firm added Theresa Choi as intern account coordinator.

    Four new hires to the Bailey/Gardiner Creative Communications team are Timothy Graham and Amy Anderson, account coordinators; Brandi Banks, assistant account executive; and Angela Norton, advertising services coordinator. Graham formerly worked for Cox Communications. Anderson was with Spear/Hall & Associates. Banks moved from Sperry West, and Nolan was with the Sutherland Agency.

    Candida Stauss was named director of development for Fresh Start Surgical Gifts Inc., a nonprofit for medical professionals who volunteer to provide free reconstructive surgery. She was previously director of development with the San Diego Historical Society.

    Personnel changes at Callaway Golf Co. include the stepping down of Bruce Parker, senior executive v.p., who will remain as a counselor with the company; the appointment of Mick McCormick to the new position of executive v.p., global sales; Chris Holiday, promoted to head of golf sales for the United States; and Jim Chenevey, appointed senior v.p. for international sales.

    Kristin Burrus, interior designer for Motivational Systems Inc., was certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification. She has been in the field for 11 years, the last four with MSI.

    The La Jolla office of RHI Management Resources promoted Robin Jones to division director. She joined the company in 1998 and has two years of auditing experience.
    Brian Brown was named area manager of RHI Consulting, overseeing the company’s Carlsbad and newly opened Scripps Ranch locations. He joined the company in 1997.

    Six new employees working in Chapman Warwick's newly designed office are Tom Custer, account executive formerly with the Gable Group; Katie Morrison, public relations account coordinator who was with the Summit Group in Salt Lake City; Erin Hergert, account coordinator, formerly an intern with Bulldog Drummond Advertising Agency; Danielle Honea, creative group manager and liaison between company departments, who was with the Townsend Agency in Sorrento Valley; Harry Jenkins, print production coordinator/computer artist, formerly an intern and freelancer; and Jennelle Koehler, account executive, who previously worked in Cleveland.

    Two new faces at Cavignac & Associates are Michael Strahan, a surety bond executive in the construction dept., and Jeffrey Steen, who will generate business in the professional liability dept. Strahan was formerly with the San Diego office of Reliance Surety Co. Steen spent three years with State Farm.

    Madjid Haghighi was appointed electrical design engineer for Lamb Consulting Engineers. During his 23-year career, he was an electrical design engineer for Haghighi Black Mountain Engineering and taught at a North Carolina technical community college.

    Don Ames was hired as corporate account executive for exhibit design sales by Mostré Design Inc., a trade show and promotional exhibit design firm serving San Diego and Orange counties.

    Hope Engineering appointed John Diebold and Kraig Klausen as associates. Diebold, hired in 1998, has 14 years of experience in structural design for commercial and industrial projects; Klausen, who began with Hope Design Group in 1989, moved to Hope Engineering in 1994.

    Three employees promoted at Di Zinno & Thompson Integrated Marketing Solutions were Jamie Marsh from account coordinator to account manager; Mike Stivers from production artist to junior art director; and Robin Vallaire from production artist to designer.

    Kathy Casey-McCandless is a new agent on the sales staff at the Willis Allen Co. in Del Mar. A 12-year real estate veteran, McCandless left Portland for the job here.

    Sheryll Siazon was named v.p. of marketing and public relations for Freaner & Associates advertising and graphic design firm. She will oversee the firm's launch to expand national marketing.

    Hired as chief estimator at Grant General Contractors was Gary A. Woods, who previously was with C.E. Wylie Construction for 21 years.

    Laurie McClain was appointed marketing and sales associate for the 1,740-acre private residential land preserve of Cielo in Rancho Santa Fe. McClain's 18 years of experience includes being a top ranking sales associate for Del Webb's Anthem Country Club in Las Vegas.

    Patricia J. Lane, director of administration for the San Diego law firm of Hinchy, Witte, Wood, Anderson & Hodges, was elected director of Region Six of the Association of Legal Administrators, based in Chicago. She was named Administrator of the Year in 1998 by the San Diego Chapter of the organization.

    CB Richard Ellis real estate services promoted Michael W. Moser, a retail specialist for 13 years, to senior v.p. Over the past 10 years, Moser has closed more than 600 sale and lease transactions and negotiated the sale or lease of more than 4 million square feet exceeding $375 million. Dean Asaro was named first v.p. He has been with the company since 1986. Joining the San Diego Central office was Joe Dietzler, a retired Marine, specializing in multihousing investment properties.
    Another CB Richard Ellis employee, retail investment broker Eric Tompkins, was elected president of the San Diego County Chapter of Certified Commercial Investment Members.
