Before Bill Geppert was the voice of Cox Communications, Bob McRann was the voice of Cox Cable for 13 years. McRann left in 1995 to be managing director of Alustar, the second largest pay-TV business in Australia. From there he went to Amsterdam for a short time, and now he is back in San Diego. Living in La Mesa, McRann is working as a cable television consultant, and he is one of four industry experts named to the advisory board of Broadband Innovations, formerly MCSI Inc. In addition, he serves on another cable advisory board in Atlanta.
Christopher J. Kearns has been made a partner in the Cooley Godward San Diego law office. His practice specializes in corporate finance including both public and private securities offerings. Judith R. Lawton, owner and president of TLC staffing was elected to chair the San Diego Private Industry Council, which this month becomes the San Diego Workforce Investment Board. She has been on the council since 1997. Les Abshire was named v.p./commercial loan officer for International City Bank's San Diego offices. Abshire has 15 years in commercial lending, seven of them in San Diego. He is known here for his affiliation with the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Corp.
David Sowell was appointed v.p., business banking officer, by Southwest Community Bank. He began his banking career in 1981 and recently spent six years with North County Bank as an SBA officer. John Mullan joined Imperial Business Credit Inc. finance company as senior v.p. for sales and marketing. His 30 years in the field include a recent position with Southern California Bank. Taylor Made-adidas Golf appointed David Abeles director of sales for adidas Golf U.S.A. He began with Taylor Made five years ago, and most recently has been general manager for the company’s Asian operations. City National Bank named Ann Russell v.p. of international trade finance. Russell worked for Qualcomm/Ericsson as senior manager in project finance. San Diego National Bank promoted three branch managers to v.p. positions. They are Linda Goycochea, manager of the Escondido office for seven years, Ron Wade, manager of the Rancho Bernardo branch for 10 years, and Enrique Melgar, manager of the South Bay/Chula Vista branch for eight years. The San Diego Chapter of Executive Women new board includes Janie Breckenridge, assistant to the president at SDCCC who succeeds Cheryl Taylor of Volume Services America at Qualcomm Stadium. New board members are Darlene Banogon of North Island Federal Credit Union; Linda Long of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps; Sbila LeProwse of the San Diego Chargers, Karen Joyce of Tiffany & Co., Danna Ford of KBM Building Services; Ruthanne Fielding of The Westgate Hotel; Charlotte Sharpe of Vista Hill Foundation; Amy Schnall of Cush Automotive Group; and Sharon Robertson of Scripps Clinic Medical Group. Paula Danker, senior v.p. of Coldwell Banker Commercial Associates, was awarded the certified commercial investment member designation by the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute. Andrew Kleske is the new online editor at the North County Times. It’s a new position. He is responsible for getting the publication's news and advertising programs going on the Internet and also is writing a weekly column on technology trends. Kleske left the San Diego Daily Transcript in July after a 13-year career that ended with him serving as editor. Four new associates have joined the San Diego office of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps. They are Chaise R. Bivin, Karen M. Clemes, Michiko Lisa Lindsey and Jessica C. Wiley. Appointed president of the San Diego Division of Standard Pacific was Todd Palmaer, formerly president of the San Diego division of Greystone Homes. He is a 14-year veteran of the home building industry.
Donna E. Murphy was appointed manager of Kleinfelder's Central Proposal Group. Murphy has more than 11 years of marketing management experience for the architectural/engineering industry. The American Society of Civil Engineers recognized Michael L. Stevens by awarding him the 1999 Presidents Medal for outstanding contributions. Stevens is executive v.p. and CFO for Poutney & Associates Inc., a San Diego civil engineering and land surveying firm. The longest standing member of the staff, Tammy Haughey, has been named g.m. of the Di Zinno Thompson Integrated Marketing Solutions. She joined the agency in 1991. Award-winning designer Lynn Crosby Harland was elected president of the San Diego Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers. She owns Duffy's retail and design studio in Solana Beach. Other newly elected officers are Stephanie Mathews, president-elect; Adelma Leifgraan, vice president; Harold Pell, secretary; and Jacqueline Kennedy, treasurer. The new editor of San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles magazine is Thomas Shess, an editor with more than 30 years of experience with West Coast-based publications. He replaces Wayne Carlson, who left the 20-year-old magazine to take a job with an Internet firm in Sorrento Valley. The La Jolla Real Estate Brokers' Association gave Kate Woods of the Ursula K. Younie Co. the McNaught-Davis/Knox award. It is given annually for service to the industry. Woods has been with the Younie Co. for 16 years. Joining Roel Construction Co. are superintendent Guy Sutton, previously a foreman with Pratte Development Inc. of Phoenix; project manager Bryan Toscani, previously with Clark & Sullivan Constructors Inc. of Nevada; and payroll administrator Rick Halverson, former office manager with the accounting firm Spurgeon & Martin. Ben Briggs, who has 10 years of industry experience, and Jonas Payne, who is working on Roel's Anthem County Club project in Henderson, Nev., were promoted from project engineers to assistant project managers. Ed Michelson was promoted to g.m. of the U.S. Net Solutions subsidiary of INET Inc. to oversee all Southern California operations. Michelson joined the company in 1997 and has been a computer professional for more than 20 years. James R. Dawe, partner at San Diego-based Seltzer Caplan Wilkins & McMahon, received the California Library Association's President's Award for his efforts to improve library services throughout the state. He helped form the San Diego Public Library Foundation and was recently re-elected president of the Library of California. Kirk Philo was promoted to construction manager for Western Pacific Housing San Diego Division. He joined the company two years ago. Robert Burkhart joined Graham Downes Architecture Inc. as a project manager. He has 13 years of experience. McGladrey & Pullen certified public accountants promoted Lauren E. Dale Hotz to audit supervisor. She has three years of auditing experience and joined this firm in 1998. Attorneys George E. Olmstead and Robert P. Pizzuto formed the law corporation Olmstead & Pizzuto and are Of Counsel to Duckor Sprading & Metzger. They specialize in trusts, wills, estates, estate and gift taxation, conservatorships, guardianships, estate litigation and related matters. Three new employees of the accounting and consulting firm of Turnquist, Schmitt, Kitrosser and McMahon are Linda Kaufman, manager of human resources consulting and marketing director; Matthew Kaney, computer consultant; and Jennifer Hamilton, audit supervisor. Caleron, Jaham & Osborn Certified Public Accountants and Consultants added four employees. They are Robert William Nelson, electronic data processing auditor; Thomas Porter Standring, audit supervisor; and Norma Alicia Rendon and Daniel John Lathus, staff accountants. Donald M. Fellows, director of development at the University of San Diego, was appointed senior consultant for national fund-raising consulting firm of Marts & Lundy Inc. Fellows has more than 17 years of experience in professional fund-raising including SDSU, Stanford and for the past nine years at USD. Rowling, Dold & Associates added new employees Michael Fitzsimmons, tax accountant, and Henry Recio, financial planner. New staff at the Sutherland Agency office in La Jolla are Pamela Manno, art director, and Melissa Stein, assistant account executive. Manno has been in graphic design for 14 years; Stein was previously with Biogenesis in San Diego. David Perlmutter, professor of linguistics at UCSD, was elected president of the Linguistic Society of America. He has published research on the structure of about 20 different languages. Appointments at CB Richard Ellis real estate services include the promotion of David Hagglund to first v.p., a 13-year veteran of the shopping center industry. Also named first v.p. is Rob Merkin, who has been in commercial real estate for 14 years. Jeff Rice was named senior associate, specializing in office investment property. Randy Newhard, president of New Way Landscape and Tree Services, was appointed to the South County Division of the Building Industry Associates year 2000 board of directors. During his one-year appointment, he will chair the organization's annual golf tournament. Sally Hayes, v.p. of sales and marketing for New Way, was re-elected to the North County Division of the BIA year 2000 board and the Commercial Industrial Council year 2000 board. Christopher A. Green was named CFO and investment officer for LandGrant Development. Green formerly was executive v.p. of the Portman Cos. Joining the Arrowhead Group of Companies is Frank Ruyak, former president and COO, of Constitution Reinsurance Corp., who has been in insurance for 24 years. Promoted in the company’s underwriting management division were Andy Swindall and Dave Whittle, both to assistant v.p. Promoted to senior v.p. at Colliers International was Eric Northbrook. With Colliers for more than seven years, Northbrook specializes in office and research and development properties. Robert Freund returned to Colliers as v.p. and director of investment services. Freund spent 12 years at Colliers as a marketing specialist but most recently was a senior manager at Ernst & Young Kenneth Leventhal. Amy Morway was promoted to associate at Carrier Johnson architecture and design firm. She has more than 12 years of experience in project management. Deborah Childress was promoted to marketing communications coordinator at Shea Homes San Diego Inc. She joined the company in April as lead receptionist, moving to marketing assistant. The National Dispatch Center Inc., based in San Diego, promoted Nancy Schmall to assistant controller. Schmall has been with NDC since 1993 and was previously accounting manager. Also promoted were David E. Etnire to director, technical services, and N.L Allen to assistant director, technical services. Two new directors on the executive management team are Ann F. Cairns, director of sales, and Kim K. Haneke, director of marketing. Jeffrey Cavignac, president of Cavignac & Associates Insurance Brokers, was named to the board of the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation & Polinsky Children's Center Foundation. Rudy Sanchez was named exhibitions assistant for the Museum, California Center for the Arts in Escondido. He was on the staff of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston as a curatorial secretary of the film and video departments. Geoff Roth was named by KSWB 5/69 as news director of WB News at Ten, San Diego’s newest 10 p.m. newscast. He is a 19-year news veteran having started his career as Washington bureau producer for CNN. Most recently he was news director for KSTU/Fox 13 in Salt Lake City. America's Finest Yacht Charters & Events added Janene Brunk as sales manager. She has seven years in the field, most recently as sales manager and convention service manager for the Mandalay Beach Resort in Oxnard. Stephen F. Moore of Los Angeles, joined the McQuertergroup's public relations staff as account supervisor and group manager. Moore formerly was a senior media relations counselor for the Financial Relations Board national investor firm. He has 11 years in the business. Five appointments were announced by the city of San Diego. Stacey Stevenson was named deputy director for contract services in the engineering and capital projects dept., and Linda J. Woodbury is disability services coordinator for the city. She was with the Texas Commission for the Blind formerly. Todd G. Hooks was appointed deputy director for the redevelopment division to oversee the city's 10 project areas. Most recently he was with the city of Burbank. Mary Braunwarth was named director of development for the city. She was director of development for the city of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation Dept. Tammy Rimes is community service center program manager and will oversee nine centers. She has been with the city for nine years. Joining the staff at ThinkTank Advertising Broadcast Design Inc. are Heather Back, production assistant, and Greg Gulick, graphic designer. Registered dietitian Amy Wright was hired by Henry's Marketplace to conduct outreach and nutrition education at in-store events and school and community programs in the San Diego area. Wright formerly worked with Scripps Heart Ornish Program for reversing heart disease. Leap Wireless International named Ann M. Owens to v.p., human resources for Cricket Communications, a Leap subsidiary. She will lead recruiting, compensation, benefits and employee development for Cricket. She formerly was director of new business initiatives for 3Com in Skokie, Ill. Promoted to tax supervisor at RSM McGladrey Inc., an accounting, tax and consulting firm for mid-sized companies, is Narelle MacKenzie. With the company since 1996, MacKenzie has 18 years of experience. Thomas Reidarson, a veterinarian for SeaWorld, passed the American College of Zoological Medicine board examination, becoming one of 63 veterinarians world-wide with this high level certification. Reiderson has been with SeaWorld for eight years. Judi Sheppard Missett, founder and CEO of Jazzercise, was named the March of Dimes 1999 Mother of the Year in San Diego. The San Diego Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) officers for 2000 are Lauri Greenblatt, president, Insignia/ESG; Joe Newman of Richard Ellis, Fred Caminite of Sunrise Management, Dick Shope of CB Richard Ellis, Nola Dillingham of Legacy Partners Commercial, Craig Evanco of Evanco Realty Advisors, Cherrie Giles of Wells Fargo Bank, Eddie Goldberg of Sea Property Management, Tina West of Monarch Realty, and Diane Petrini of Petrini Asset Management. Kurt Hunker a consultant to Roesling Nakamura Architects Inc. for five years and on the staff since 1998, was named associate. Ralph Roesling, principal of the Gaslamp architectural firm, will teach the third year design studio at the San Diego campus of Woodbury University. Carol Vaughan was recruited as director of the San Diego Housing Commission's Housing, Policy & Finances division. She has headed the commission's two other divisions, Housing Services and Operations. The President's Award of the San Diego County Apartment Association for overall excellence was presented to Renee Savage, senior v.p., property management, at Capital Growth Properties. |
