Thank you for your insightful article regarding the Carl's Jr. in the February issue of San Diego Metropolitan. The problems facing the disabled is a point well-taken and supports the need to educate the unknowing about accessible issues in San Diego. Wes Johnson, president Your article, "A Mayor for The 21st Century" (February, 2000), names George Stevens before any other mayoral candidate, then Barbara Warden and Byron Wear. You put Ms. Warden's picture in the back of the article, Mr. Wear's picture way in back of the article, but the black candidate, the Rev. Mr. Stevens, isn’t pictured in the article at all. Are you subtly trying to convey a racial preference among candidates? Should Mr. Stevens' picture have appeared in the mayoral article, especially given the huge promo about Black entrepreneurship, and given the opening article on racial reconciliation by a respected entrepreneur and scholar, and given the fact that February is Black History Month? You owe your readers a truthful explanation, not some lame excuse. James Varnadore Stevens' photo was inadvertently left out during production. Metropolitan regrets the omission. Hal Brown's column in the February issue was one of the best articles I’ve ever read on racial reconciliation. I have made copies for friends and family. Tom Schuettge |
