Tachyon Provides A Digital
Bridge For The Navajos

Heeding President Clinton's call to bridge the digital divide, San Diego-based Tachyon Inc. brought its super fast satellite-based Internet connections to the Navajo reservation. The company installed 800Kbps two-way links at a tribal elementary school and two colleges. Located in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, the reservation covers an area about the size of West Virginia. The rural, isolated locations made bringing a speedy landline connection too expensive.

At left, John Koehler, CEO and president of Tachyon, shakes hands with President Clinton, who toured the reservation project last month. Top right is the Tachyon.net setup, while at bottom right Koehler works with a student at the Lake Valley Day School which sits on the edge of Chaco Canyon. Tachyon — the name means a hypothetical particle that travels faster than light — was founded by Koehler in 1997.
