‘Slick’ Marketing

Law student Robyn Statman sees
interest grow in her massage product

As co-founder and CEO of cosmetics company Rubb Inc., Robyn Statman took an idea and turned it into a business with the help and financial support of co-founder Brian Rott. Statman, 27, developed Hey Slick Massage Oil for bath, body and massage.

The product went on the market last December. It can be found nationwide, and is available at three San Diego locations: Anatomy Day Spa in Hillcrest, Changes Medispa in Del Mar and Neroli in La Jolla. Hey Slick has been featured in the pages of Mademoiselle, Seventeen and Jump magazines, and will appear in upcoming issues of Marie Claire, Teen People and Essence. With a goal to create a positive perception of the massage industry, Statman defines the success of her product by sales and recent attention from the press.

As a third-year law student at the University of San Diego, Statman was a Community Service Grant Recipient through the school’s Public Interest Law Foundation. She used the money to intern as a summer associate at the United Jewish Federation, where she also volunteers. She’s a member of International Cosmetics Manufacturers and Distributors, and Rubb Inc. donates to the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation.
