January 1, 2001 One of San Diego’s largest contractors, Ninteman Construction Co. Inc., has taken the name of its parent firm to become Sundt Construction Inc., Southern California. Ninteman merged with Sundt, headquartered in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1989. Top personnel in the company have not changed as a result of the new name. Tom Remensperger is the president of Sundt, as he was at Ninteman. Others continuing in top leadership positions are Gene Hussy, v.p. and gm, Joe Grosshart, v.p. of pre-construction services, and Tom Tourtellott, v.p. of marketing. Remensperger says the change was necessary because of the company’s rapid growth in recent years. “As Sundt has continued to grow and add more offices, it has found itself working for more clients that operate on a regional or national basis. It was becoming increasingly important for Sundt to have one identity wherever its offices are located.” Sundt (Ninteman) is best known for major projects such as the San Diego Hall of Champions and SDSU’s Love Library addition. The San Diego office specializes in office buildings, retail, health care, industrial and high-tech projects, design/build and design/assist projects, university projects and senior care facilities. *** The Buick Invitational, set for Feb. 5 through 11 at Torrey Pines, unveiled Birdies For Charities a new charitable opportunity for local organizations. This new program will enable donors to pledge funds for the number of birdies during the 2001 Buick Invitational. During last year’s tournament their was a total of 1,538 birdies and eagles. If a donor designates $1 as the amount then the charity would receive $1,538.00 for its cause. In addition, if a person guesses the correct number of birdies during the tournament, they will win a trip for two to Monte Carlo courtesy of U.S. Airways, Balmoral Hotel and Torrey Pines Rotary. The Century Club of San Diego, which is the organizing body of the Buick Invitational, has raised more than $5 million dollars for hundreds of San Diego organizations over the years. Included in these efforts is the highly successful Save Our Sports program that has earned more than $1.4 million for local high school programs. "Both the Birdies For Charities and Save Our Sports Programs are tremendous vehicles to help many local organizations," says Tom Wilson, executive director of the invitational. "The Birdies For Charities program has had great financial results at other PGA Tour events over the years. We are hopeful that this program will be a success year after year." Any interested charitable organizations that has 501C3 status and would like to participate in the Birdies For Charities program should contact Danette Lang at the Century Club, (619) 281-4653. *** |
