Bush to be Secretary of Veteran Affairs, is chairman of The Federal Network, a San Diego-based wireless telecommunications company. Principi also is the brother of Nancy Scull, a partner at Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps partner. For a short period of time Principi himself was of counsel to the law firm. A combat-decorated Vietnam War veteran, Principi served as deputy secretary of veterans affairs for the elder Bush's administration and also chaired the Commission of Service Members and Veterans Transition Assistance established by congress in 1996. *** If someone swipes your Discover Card information, look for San Diego-based HNC Software Inc. to help catch the culprit. Discover has agreed to the Falcon card fraud detection system developed by HNC Financial Solutions, a division of HNC Software. HNC's suite of predictive software solutions can provide real-time insight into customer relationships based on transaction-level data, helping business-to-consumer companies manage their relationships with individual customers. *** In the latest sale resulting for its decision to liquidate, Burnham Pacific Properties Inc. has closed on the $109.9 million sale of three shopping centers situated in the Los Angeles metro region. The three California centers are Valley Central Shopping Center located in Lancaster, the Plaza at Puente Hills located in the City of Industry, and the La Mancha Shopping Center located in Fullerton. Burnham Pacific sold its 1.1 million square feet of acquired interest in the three centers to Retail Value Investment Program, a joint venture comprised of Developers Diversified, Coventry Real Estate Partners and Prudential Real Estate Investors. Burnham Pacific will realize an aggregate gain on sale of approximately $15.6 million. Proceeds from the sale will be used to reduce outstanding indebtedness. The sales represent a portion of a portfolio of properties targeted for sale under the previously announced purchase and sale agreement with The Prudential Insurance Co. of America, with the remaining properties having an aggregate purchase price of $158 million. *** Innovative Resort Communities has opened phase one of its newest development at Cielo, a 1,740-acre project in Rancho Santa Fe. The latest phase features seven custom residences that will be ready for move-in by the end of March. The homes are priced in the mid-$2 millions; four already have sold. "Cielo is a beautiful place to live," says Tom Dobron, president of Innovative Resort. Innovative Resort' 23 residences will be situated on one- to three-acre sites. The homes feature panoramic views of the surrounding ridge lines, a new golf course and deep canyons. Homes will range in size from 6,100 square feet to 8,800 square feet and will feature five to six bedrooms, a bonus room and a motor court with auto storage for four to five vehicles.
