Qualcomm Inc., pioneer of code division multiple access, named Jeffrey K. Belk to sr. v.p. of marketing. He has been with the company since 1994 and formerly was v.p. and g.m. of Qualcomm Eudora Products.Also at Qualcomm Peggy Johnson was appointed senior v.p. and g.m. of newly formed Qualcomm Internet Services division. She was senior v.p. of sales and marketing for Kyocera Wireless following the sale of Qualcomm Consumer Products to Kyocera. Mary Lewis was promoted to general v.p. at Alliance Healthcare Foundation. Her duties include operations planning and budgeting for all departments of the foundation. Diane Gage joined Sharp HealthCare as senior v.p. of marketing. She was v.p. of Sharp HealthCare’s corporate communications from 1994 to 1995 and has now returned to head Sharp’s marketing division. Since 1995, Gage has worked for the Catholic Health Initiative. Abby B. Silverman of Baker & McKenzie was given the annual Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of San Diego School of Law. Silverman is a managing partner at Baker & McKenzie where she heads the Employment Law Practice Group and chairs the firm’s Human Resources and Benefits Committee. Gail Gotthelf joined California Bank & Trust as v.p. of corporate banking. Gotthelf spent seven years with First National Bank in Downtown and has more than 16 years of commercial lending experience. José M. Esquer was named senior v.p./international private banking manager for the wealth management group at the bank, to be working out of the Golden Triangle office. Sempra Energy Solutions hired Gary Hessenauer as senior v.p. of sales. Hessenauer has more than 18 years of management experience ranging from heavy industrial to high tech. He was recently at Depsco Services. Sandra J. Perlatti was inducted into the Building Industry Association of San Diego’s Hall of Fame. Of the 13 individuals who have received this award since 1994, Perlatti is only the second woman. She is the senior v.p. of marketing for The Corky McMillin Cos.
Scott Whitlock was hired as business development manager for the Southern California district of Hensel Phelps Construction Co. He has more than 15 years of marketing experience in the construction industry from working for L.E. Wentz Co. in Irvine. Jeb Bakke was named senior v.p. with CB Richard Ellis’ central office. He has been with the company since 1984. Joe Dietzler was promoted from sales assistant to associate and moved into the Carlsbad office where he specializes in office property sales and leasing in North County. The San Diego law firm of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savich LLP has hired associates Frederick Taylor, William Reiter, Sean Barry and Lesley Ruth Knapp. Taylor’s expertise is in intellectual property litigation with an emphasis on Internet licensing, copyrights and trademarks. Reiter specializes in corporate law, securities and mergers and acquisitions. Barry specializes in corporate and technology law. Knapp is an expert in natural resource and environmental law. Marco Thompson was elected president of the San Diego Telecom Council. During his one-year term, which begins in January, Thompson’s mission is to expand the organization’s recognition and proliferation of San Diego’s telecommunications industry. Scripps Clinic CEO Hubert T. Greenway was elected president of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. Greenway, a practicing dermatologist, also is the medical director of the Scripps Clinic Skin and Cosmetic Center. McKenna & Cunneo hired attorneys David E. Bergquist and Sandra T.M. Chong. Bergquist joins the firm as of counsel, and Chong joins as an associate. Both were previously at Hillyer & Irwin. Joining the business and trial practice law firm of Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek as associates were: Alaina M. Alexson, business and real estate law section; Stephen J. The San Diego office of Best Best & Krieger hired attorneys Robert J. Hanna and Mary Beth Coburn. Hanna’s practice emphasizes real property, title insurance, trust and general business litigation. He is the former chairman of Hillyer & Irwin. Coburn, an associate, practices general civil litigation with an emphasis in engineering and construction-related claims assessment and litigation. She is also a licensed civil engineer. Blake A. O’Neill joined Baker & Maxham as an associate. He has litigation and patent prosecution experience, particularly in the chemical and biotechnology fields. O’Neill was previously an associate with the law firms of Campbell & Flores and the Brotman Group. Arrowhead General Insurance Agency Inc hired Steve Bouker as senior v.p. of the newly formed residential earthquake division. Bouker has more than 15 years of underwriting and marketing experience and will set up and manage Arrowhead’s Residential Quake profit center. Eric and Peggy Chodorow were honored by The Willis Allen Co. for an outstanding year in real estate. The mother and son team has closed escrow on $82 million in property, representing 70 buyers and sellers and with an average sales price of $1,150,000.
Lee Hecht Harrison, a career services firm, named Maggie Osburn and Kathi Karen as v.p.s of development. Osburn has 14 years of experience in sales and training. Karen has 15 years of experience including seven years with TOPS Staffing. The city of Oceanside hired Anita Willis as assistant city attorney. She has been an Oceanside deputy city attorney since 1998. The San Diego County Water Authority board elected James Turner chairman, Bernie Rhinerson vice chairman, and James Bond secretary. Turner has represented Oceanside on the board since 1986. Rhinerson represents San Diego and was most recently chairman of the Fiscal Policy Committee. Bond represents the San Dieguito Water District and has served on the board since 1998. Todd Olson joined Prestige Concrete in business development. Olson has more than 20 years experience as a specialty concrete expert and will handle commercial and high-end residential projects. He was with Progressive Concrete. Roel Construction hired Kathy Sada in human resources generalist/accounting. She recently worked for Edward’s Cardiovascular Resources. Kayda Johnson was named senior v.p. of operations at Senior Resource Group. Johnson is responsible for all operational policies, procedures and systems at the company’s communities in La Jolla, Arizona and Oregon. She has more than 20 years of industry experience, most recently for Kisco. Rafael Benitez was appointed staff development manager for C. Beauty Institute, the training center for C. Spa Salon. He will supervise a team of nine trainers in the Junior Stylist Program and train them in business practices, artistic skills and customer service. Gina D’Amico has been appointed a stylist for the Bankers Hill location of C. Spa. Prior to joining C. Spa, D’Amico served 14 years as a customer service representative in the communications department at Nordstrom. IP Strategy hired Ben Fisher as chief strategist. He also will manage the Flash product division. He brings more than 10 years of computer and Internet training experience from Virtual Flagstaff. Jane Kirkeby was named board president for the Timken Museum of Art in Balboa Park. She has been on the board for eight years and is head of the acquisitions committee. She worked in membership at the San Diego Museum of Art before moving to the Timken. Kenneth Seuberling and Thomas Burke were promoted to associates at HMC Architects. Seuberling is a senior designer with 19 years of experience, and Burke is a senior project architect with more than 25 years of experience. Katherine I. Lord was promoted to senior associate at HMC. She has more than 23 years of experience in providing architectural services for educational, health care and civic facilities.
The Healthcare Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties elected Tri-City Healthcare District board member RoseMarie Reno to its board. Reno joins 13 other board members working to strengthen community health care services. Kimberly Borgen joined Ir2 - Interior Resource Inc. as project designer. Borgen recently served as facilities planner and consultant for Raytheon Systems Co. V. Scott Cairns, v.p. and senior project architect of Smith Consulting Architects, was appointed to the Senior Community Centers board. Castle Advertising hired Dave Franco as associate creative director, Mike Marchesano as director of accounting, Katie Bey as account coordinator, Sandra Scholl as media buyer and Rina Galit as media coordinator.
