Flavio Olivieri, San Diego Metropolitan’s cover boy in April, has been hired as public relations g.m. at Sempra Energy de Mexico. Working from offices in Tijuana, Olivieri will represent the company and develop community and media relations in the Baja area. He also will continue his efforts with his consulting firm, i’America’s Group.

Ian D. Campbell, San Diego Opera general director, was elected chairman of Opera America. He will serve an initial term of two years.

Ky Snyder has been appointed president for the San Diego Super Bowl Host Committee. Snyder is president of the San Diego International Sports Council.

Gary L. Gallegos is leaving Caltrans to take the executive director’s slot at Sandag. He starts July 2; he was the board’s unanimous choice.

Helen Perry has been promoted to senior staff scientist at Environmental Business Solutions. She joined the firm in 1999 as a staff scientist.

Sherman D. Harmer Jr., vice chair and managing director of marketing at The Olson Co., is being inducted into the California Building Industry Hall of Fame.

Sandra Flores has joined the staff of Senior Resource Group as associate director of clinical services. Flores previously worked at Managed Care Pharmacy.

Brigham Black has been named director of leasing and sales for The Shidler Group. Prior to joining the group, Black was with AMB Investment Management LP.

La Jolla Pharmaceutical Co. has appointed William J. Welch to the position of v.p. of marketing. Welch previously worked for Abbott Laboratories.

Community Bancorp’s Community National Bank subsidiary has appointed Todd Twedt v.p. and commercial lending officer. Twedt was previously a commercial lending officer at Palomar Community Bank.

Chad Harris has been promoted to director of land acquisitions for Centex Homes San Diego, and Marc Zaffina is taking the position of sales and marketing director.

Karen Bishop, founder and CEO of Futures in Education Inc., has received the Alumna of the Year Award from United States International University.

The Lawyers Club of San Diego board has elected Paula S. Rosenstein as the organization’s next president. Rosenstein succeeds DeAnn M. Salcido and will serve as president for the 2001-02 year.

Matthew J. Liedle, William C. Getty and William C. Wilson recently formed the law firm of Liedle, Getty & Wilson LLP. The firm specializes in civil litigation, construction, long-term care, business and insurance law.

Three partners of La Jolla-based Enterprise Partners Venture Capital have been recognized with achievement awards and national appointments. General partner William R. Stensrud has been elected to the next board of the National Venture Capital Association. Solus Micro Technologies Appointed Naser Partovi as chairman. UC Irvine recognized Drew Senyei with the Lauds and Laurels Distinguished Alumnus Award for his accomplishments and contributions to the advancement of life science innovations and to the UCI campus and community.

SeatAdvisor Inc. has appointed Al DeJardin to the position of senior v.p. of sales. Previously, DeJardin was the v.p. of sales for ETM Entertainment Network.

Vantage Law Group has added Kathleen Juniper as of counsel. Prior to joining the firm, Juniper advised businesses on state and federal trade regulations and operational compliance safeguards.

John C. Phillips has joined Fish & Richardson as a principal lawyer in the patent group. Phillips is returning to Fish & Richardson after serving as general counsel to Navlet.com, Inc.

Quake Global has promoted Jennifer Forman to business development director. Forman was previously a marketing manager and has been with the firm for two years.

The San Diego Chapter of the Associated General Contractors has hired Brad Barnum as its director of government relations. Barnum was recently with the National Electrical Contractors Association.

Deanna Spehn has joined Stoorza Communications Inc. as director in the firm’s public affairs division. Spehn most recently served as senior policy analyst at the city of San Diego.

Mark Leicht has joined Sundt Construction as a senior estimator. Leicht has 25 years’ experience and worked previously at Cumming LLC. Darrel Calipo has been hired to the position of senior estimator in pre-construction services. Calipo was most recently with Bovis Lend Lease in Los Angeles. Also, Dave Rudderow has joined the firm as a project manager/estimator for the public projects division. Rudderow was most recently with Eleven Western Builders Inc.

John Shean is v.p. of sales and marketing for the San Diego Chargers. He was most recently with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.

Winston F. McColl has been hired as San Diego County’s director of purchasing and contracting. He comes to the county from Georgia, where he served as state procurement administrator.

Molly Holden has been appointed v.p. of project management for Vendor Management Services. Holden was previously with RELS Title Services LLC.

Mohammed Ebrahim Bahadori has been named Taxicab, Paratransit Association of California Driver of the Year. Bahadori works for Yellow Cab of San Diego.

The Ardell Group has promoted Barbara Lord and Jennifer Williamson to senior account executives. Lord also will manage the firm’s new Boston office. Prior to joining the group, Lord and Williamson were both media relations specialists at CCS/PR Inc.

Marilyn Crouch is returning to the job of county library director for San Diego County. She left the position, which she held for five years, last fall to work for the state library in Sacramento.

Kelly Broughton is the city’s new deputy director of the Land Development Review Division. Broughton was previously deputy director of the Project Management Division and replaces Gary Halbert, who is now the chief deputy directory for the Planning Department. Marcela Escobar-Eck is replacing Broughton. She has been city liaison on the Naval Training Center Reuse Project.

Mike Haynes is the new v.p., recreational golf development, at Callaway Golf Co. Haynes has been working with the company since January. Prior to joining Callaway, he was a defensive back for the New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders.

Peregrine Systems Inc. appointed Kenneth M. Mellett as v.p. of the North American sales organization for its infrastructure management group. Prior to joining Peregrine, Mellett was CrossWorlds Software's v.p. of sales.

Robert S. Gerber, a partner with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, has been named a recipient of the Co-President Award by the Tom Homann Law Association in recognition of Gerber’s pro bono work on behalf of Geovanni Hernandez-Monteil. In its decision, the court held that Hernandez-Montiel, a Mexican who had been persecuted in his homeland because of his sexual orientation, was entitled to political asylum in the United States.

Jeff Haack has joined The McCulley Group as creative director. He has eight years of creative experience, most recently with a Seattle firm.

Sony Online Entertainment has promoted Scott McDaniel to the position of v.p. of marketing. McDaniel has successfully spearheaded a consumer-focused marketing and public relations strategy that has enhanced SOE’s position as the premier destination for interactive game enthusiasts.

P. Morgan Brown has joined Interactivate Inc. as client services assistant. Brown joins the firm from Salesmountain.com, where he served as director of operations for the Frankfurt, Germany, location.

W. Harold Tuck Jr. is taking on the role of director of Housing and Community Development for San Diego County. He previously served as deputy director of the county’s Health and Human Services agency.

Dudek & Associates Inc. has hired Andrew “Andy” Thomson and Scott Boczkiewicz as habitat restoration specialists for its corporate headquarters’ Environmental Sciences Division. Thomson comes to Dudek & Associates from Big Bear where he performed habitat restoration work for the U.S. Forest Service. Boczkiewicz brings eight years of professional conservation biologist experience to the firm.

HDR has named Jeff R. Thornbury manager of its San Diego Office. Thornbury has 17 years’ experience in business development, project and office management.

Mary Henrikson, CEO for Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women, was elected to the board for the San Diego Imperial Division of the March of Dimes.

Patricia Groff, director of administration for Butz Dunn DeSantis & Bingham, has been appointed to a regional officer position for Region Six of the Association of Legal Administrators in Chicago.

Sarah Sheehan joined Imagination Entertainment as national sales director. She formerly worked at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas producing special events in the MGM theme park.

Five professors at UCSD have been elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, Class 2001. Jeremy Bradford Cook Jackson, oceanography; Matthew D. McCubbins, political science; John W. Newport, biology; John B. West, medicine and physiology; and Charles Zuker, biology and neurosciences, are among 185 new fellows across the nation.

The Greater San Diego Industry-Education Council has selected Southwestern College President Serafin A. Zasueta as the recipient of the annual Educator Award.

Robert Lynch of San Diego City Schools was recognized as an outstanding school psychologist by the California Association of School Psychologists. CASP awards school psychologists for their contributions to the educational community.

Benedetto Communications has hired Christina Blaney as assistant account executive to its public relations division. Prior to BC, Blaney began her career in public relations as an account coordinator for Bailey/Gardiner Inc.

William Sharon has been promoted to director of retail design for Smith Consulting Architects. Sharon joined the company in 1996 as a project design architect.

San Diego Insurance Staffing has promoted Debra Hill Hendricks to account executive. Hendricks has been employed with the company since its first year in business, 1995.

Richard Kenner has joined The Mony Group’s Mony Life Insurance Co. and Mony Securities Corp. as a financial professional. Kenner previously worked as a financial professional at American Express Financial Advisors.

Lyne Selden, III, and Michael Bishop have joined the law firm of Neil, Dymott, Perkins, Brown & Frank as associates.

Christian Community Theater has selected three new marketing and development staff members. Sharon Milligan was hired as CCT’s first full-time director of development and marketing. Charles W. Patmon Jr. has joined CCT as marketing manager. Judi Dugger will be serving the company as marketing assistant.

Bay Logics Inc. has hired Rocky Zanzonico as regional v.p. of sales. Zanzonico has 18 years’ experience in sales and marketing and previously worked for Adwise.net Inc.

Cathy Leathem, an account manager in the commercial insurance division at John Burnham & Co., was honored with the Spirit of Burnham Award. This is the firm’s equivalent to an employee of the year award. Leathem received the award because of her 12 years of outstanding performance and excellent attitude.

Amy Denhart has joined the management staff of Planned Parenthood of San Diego and Riverside counties as director of public affairs.

San Diego National Bank has promoted four employees. Cindy Randall-Grefe is assistant v.p. of retail lending, Sandy Kiser is assistant v.p. of the Downtown office, Andy Kotowicz is assistant v.p. of commercial real estate lending and Melissa Smith is assistant v.p./controller.

Gov. Davis has appointed Allen Jones, v.p. of San Diego’s Fenton Co., to the position of chair at the California State Mining and Geology Board.

Leslie Anne Mogul and Pam Murphy have been appointed board members at the Escondido Humane Society. Mogul is president of Project Works, Murphy is the training and behavior adviser for the humane society and director of training for the Hidden Valley Obedience Club.

Senior Resource Group has named Josh Allen director of clinical services. Allen was recently with the Advanced Heathcare Studies Division of Community Education LLC.

David Boyd has been brought aboard Johnson & Jennings General Contracting as assistant superintendent. Boyd previously worked for Ajacks Maintenance. Justin Urata also has been hired as superintendent. He was previously with Westland Construction.

Science Applications International Corp. has named Edward J. Hendrick senior v.p. of technology commercialization. Prior to joining SAIC, Hendrick worked at U.S. West Advanced Technologies.

James A. Floros, executive director of the Burn Institute, has been elected chair of the International Federation of Burn Foundations. Floros joined the institute in 1992.

Roel Construction Co. has hired Don Maloy as project manager at The River at Rancho Mirage. Peter Lupo has been hired as assistant safety director, David Atkinson is project manager/estimator, Matt McCaigue is technical specialist and Jennifer Vidrio is administrative assistant working on the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center project in East San Diego.

Brehm Homes announced the appointment of Debra Vaughan as senior sales manager for the firm’s new Cristalla neighborhood. Matthew Norman has joined the company as purchasing manager. Norman previously worked for Centex Homes. Another new project manager at Cristalla is Jeffrey J. Hollenbeck, whose 25 years of experience includes working in Orange County developments.

Susan J. Klyce has been appointed commercial/industrial escrow officer for Chicago Title. Prior to joining Chicago, Klyce was with Fidelity National Title Insurance Co. in Newport Beach.

Maurice Saad has been named marketing director and head of audit division for the new San Diego office of California Waste Solutions. The firm specializes in cost recovery and expense control consulting for business owners due to solid waste disposal overcharges.

Mary M. Zoeller has joined Navica Partners LLC as a senior associate. Previously, Zoeller was at Praja Inc. Barbara B. Hogan also has joined as a senior associate. Hogan has more than 20 years’ experience and has worked at IBM, AT&T and Cisco Systems.

Thomas B. Todd has been named v.p. of HDR Inc. Todd is a managing principal of the company’s San Diego office, which he joined last year.

The Port of San Diego has appointed Sonali Bose as deputy executive director for business and administration. This is a newly created position and Bose will be responsible for administrative, business and support functions at the Port.

California Children's Hospital Association has hired Eve Lechner as director of communications. Lechner brings to CCHA more than eight years of media relations and marketing experience in the nonprofit sector. She was previously with Burson-Marsteller.

Cooper Iverson Marketing has appointed Mireia Mangual as director of business development. Mangual joins CIM from Weber Shandwick, where she supported European operations in agency marketing and new business.

The La Jolla Chamber Music Society has named Bruno Artero as its new director of development. Artero comes to the society from the MBC Ballet, which he co-founded, in Thousand Oaks.

Broadband Innovations Inc. has hired Derek Morikawa as v.p. of operations. Morikawa recently founded Runaway Ideas, a company specializing in identifying and incubating San Diego-based business projects.

Aquent has named Valerie Peck perm czar, a new position for the company. In this position, Peck will analyze current business processes to define and roll out best practices for filling permanent positions and develop permanent placement strategy.

Miriam McKenna has been named project manager at Berryman & Henigar. McKenna developed the city of Poway’s potable water master plan.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit Development Board has named Susan Hafner as the new director of multimodal operations. Hafner was previously with Riverside Transit. Tonia Botte Bates has been named the new MTS director of planning and development. Bates has worked for MTDB for 18 years.

Eric Shellhorn has opened Crowded Room, a full-service public relations agency. Crowded Room specializes in strategic media- and investor-outreach programs, issues and crisis management, annual reports, employee communications and speech writing.

Oster & Associates has hired Peter Schmitz as art director. Before joining the firm, Schmitz was at Robert W. Baird & Co. in Milwaukee.

Athan Vlahos and Betty Vlahos of Prudential California Realty received the Chairman’s Circle Platinum Award, ranking them within the top 2 percent of more than 42,000 agents nationwide. The mother and son team have been working together for 25 years and are located at the Del Mar office.

Judge Wayne L. Peterson has been honored by the San Diego County Bar Association as Legal Professional of the Year. The award was given to Peterson for his implementation of court unification and his earlier supervision of the design and construction of the Hall of Justice.

Eric Chriss was elected secretary of the San Diego Regional Technology Alliance after serving on the board for two years. He is with Tatum CFO Partners.

Joining Rancho Santa Fe National Bank is Robert Pedersen, as assistant v.p., SBA business development officer in the Golden Triangle branch. He was with First Union Small Business Capital and the Money Store.

Bertha Marie Brekka has joined the Willis Allen Co.’s La Jolla office. Brekka was formerly a promoter with the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Cathleen F. Weber has been selected marketing director for La Vida Del Mar. Most recently, Weber worked for the Casa Palmera Care Center.

Gary Baker has been promoted to v.p. of design for Smith Consulting Architects. Baker joined Smith in 1994 as project architect.

Steven E. Kiss has been appointed project manager at KCM Group. Kiss comes to KCM from Manuel Oncina Architects Inc.
