Border Crossing
Can Be A Long Wait

Bravo on your article in the Metropolitan magazine (The Connection, August 2001). My husband and I have a home in Ensenada and try as we might, it is difficult to find a time that it doesn’t take 30 minutes to an hour to cross back to the U.S. We have tried very early Sunday, which used to be five minutes, to midday, and have yet to cross in less than an hour.

One day only (the day after Christmas) it took five minutes at 9 a.m.

Thanks again for a very insightful article.

It’s An Exciting Time
To Be In The District

I enjoyed reading your article (“Unbridled Passion ...” by Joanne Gribble, September 2001). School reform is not new to San Diego City Schools. Many of the past attempts aimed at changing the quality of instruction were met with opposition. It is easy to point fingers and make accusations, but the bottom line is the education of students.
I believe a major discrepancy in the implementation of the Blueprint was its incongruence with the sequence and scope of actual school functions. Referring to and implementing the strategies of Michael Fullan on school change could have helped minimize much of the truncated commitment that has surfaced between SDEA members and Anthony Alvarado.

However, I must concede that a change needed to occur, and it is exciting to be working in this district. The time has passed for Alvarado, Alan Bersin and Marc Knapp to forge a partnership that is focused on the needs of all students. The alliance between these leaders would model for our students and the community that their unbridled commitment and passion to increase student achievement is their sole motivation.

More Downtown
Housing Promoted

Given our current housing shortage in San Diego, doesn’t it seem like the City Council should be re-evaluating Downtown zoning? Granted, there are several residential buildings under construction Downtown; however, there is still a shortage.

There are a lot of Downtown city blocks that are not zoned for residential high rises. It’s time to put development back where it belongs, Downtown. Density is the only way to provide more housing and save San Diego’s landscape.

I’m sorry the city isn’t doing more to promote density.

Reviewer Knows How
To Cover A Movie

I really enjoy the movie reviews by Jean Lowerison (San Diego Metropolitan online at sandiegometro.com). This writer is knowledgeable, informative and unobtrusively humorous. Keep up the good work.

Palm Devices Go Hand
In Hand With
sandiegometro.com

I just downloaded your Restaurant Review Archives to my Palm pilot (using Advantgo) and find your pages to be the most helpful and best organized for this purpose! No annoying side image maps to deal with, just the information I wanted presented in a concise manner.

Just wondering why you don’t promote how great your site is for downloading to a Palm device?
