Betsy and Doug Manchester have made a $2 million gift their contribution to The Bishop’s School’s Education for Life Endowment Campaign. The money will fund financial aid for qualified students, endow the school’s chaplain program as well as establish several academic chairs. “We deeply appreciate this generous gift from the Manchesters. It will provide the opportunity for a number of students to attend Bishop’s as well as enabling us to provide an even greater educational experience for all of our students,” says Michael Teitelman, headmaster. The Education for Life Endowment Campaign has a goal of $15 million to be raised by June 2002. So far, about $13 million has been raised. At the campaign’s completion the school’s endowment will total $25 million. Bishop’s endowment is directed toward faculty salaries, financial aid and maintenance. The Manchester family has a long-standing affiliation with Bishop’s since all of their five children have attended the school. Other major contributions the family has made to Bishop’s include building the Manchester Tennis Center. In recognition of the family’s continued commitment, the school’s private dining room has been named in their honor. “Now that our youngest has graduated from Bishop’s we wanted to show our deep appreciation for the wonderful education all of our children received,” says Doug Manchester. “We also wanted to help give other deserving children the opportunity to attend Bishop’s in the future.” Betsy Manchester, a Bishop’s trustee, adds that, “Besides the financial aid support, we are endowing the school’s chaplain program to ensure it will continue to be as meaningful and successful for future generations of children as it has been for ours.” San Diego Metropolitan
