Kiwanis is the third largest service organization in the world but what really appeals to James Boley — a member of the Lake Murray Kiwanis Club since 1996 and the current president — is that it is No.1 in terms of members’ service hours.

Boley’s personal dedication was recognized in 1997 when he was named Kiwanian of the Year for outstanding community service. That was the year he created and inspired the club’s largest single event and fund-raiser, the annual Street Fair at Lake Murray.

The event has grown steadily since and this year was the biggest and best so far. The fair, brought forward from September to combine with the annual area picnic in May, raised about $7,000 for scholarships and other community projects.

Boley, 35, is a partner in the San Diego-based law firm of Neil, Dymott, Perkins, Brown & Frank where he deals with serious personal injury litigation. He is a member of the State Bar, the San Diego County Bar Association and other professional organizations. He is a barrister in the American Inn of Court and an active mentor to students at California Western School of Law.

Boley lives in San Carlos with his wife, Cheryl. They have two daughters ages 8 and 6, which helps explain why Boley coaches five Navajo Bobby Sox and Crusaders under-8 girls’ soccer teams. Boley’s community involvement with young people also has extended to teaching weekly economics classes to students at Southwest High School.

In San Carlos, where he was raised and his parents still live, Boley is a lay leader of the United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Greater Navajo Area Business Association.

Family time is important to Jim Boley, his wife Cheryl and their children Ally and Taryn.
