The San Diego County Bar Association and Lawyer Referral and Information Service will host a slate of professional and community outreach activities in celebration of local Law Week, April 29 through May 4. Special events include:
- KNSD 7/39 Ask-a-Lawyer Night, April 29, 4-7 p.m. SDCBA lawyers will answer viewers’ legal questions.
- Youth Day in Court, May 1, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Students from three area high schools will visit the Hall of Justice, Downtown, for an overview of our justice system.
- Job Shadow Day, May 1, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Students from Madison High School will shadow a workplace mentor through a typical day on the job.
- Family Law Assistance Day, May 1, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Volunteers will offer legal advice at the Family Law Facilitator’s Office at Family Law Court, Downtown.
- “Capitol Steps,” May 1, 6-7 p.m. cocktails, 7:30 p.m. program, East County Performing Arts Center in El Cajon. Congressional staffers-turned-comedians will satirize the very people that once employed them in this get-together for the legal community.
- Legal Career Day, May 2, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Legal professionals will visit the SDCBA’s partner-in-education, Madison High School, to speak to classes about careers in law, followed by a lunchtime Career Fair.
- Free Law at Kobey’s, May 4, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. SDCBA volunteer lawyers will provide free legal information at Kobey’s swap meet at the Sports Arena.
- Law Day Luncheon, May 3, noon-1:30 p.m., SDCBA Bar Center. The Bar’s annual service awards will be presented. Also, winners of the Law Week 2002 student oratorical, poster and essay competitions will be on hand to accept their awards. Service award winners:
