Dr. Andrew Viterbi is the new president of the Jewish Community Foundation. Viterbi has served on the board for nine years and is a cofounder, retired vice chair and CTO of Qualcomm Inc. He currently is president of the Viterbi Group, a technical advisory and investment company.

Kyocera America has promoted John Schierer to v.p. of administration and support services. Schierer began his career with Kyocera America in 1998 as manager of human resources and most recently was g.m. of administration and support services.

Iris Strauss was elected president of the San Diego Opera Association. Strauss has served as director since 1990. New additions to the board include Raffaella Belanich, Constance Carroll, Andrew Dumke, Jay Lynch, Mitch Mitchell, Hiep Pham, Dev Purkayastha, Colette Royston and Bobby Vassallo.

The San Diego Opera has added Susan E. Farrell as director of public relations and Keith A. Fisher as director of administration. Farrell was previously an anchor/reporter for KUSI-TV. Fisher brings more than 15 years of senior management skills to his new position.

Landmark National Bank has named F.J. “Rick” Mandelbaum, former senior v.p. and regional manager of commercial banking for US Bank, executive v.p./CCO.

Dave Walters has joined 1st Pacific Bank of California as a senior commercial lender. Walters is a 27-year veteran of business banking.

The Port of San Diego has appointed Karen Porteous as director of human resources and has promoted Daniel Strum to director of real estate. Porteous previously was the interim director of the department, and Strum was the assistant director of real estate management.

Brenda L. Hummell is the new v.p. of commercial lending at the Bank of Coronado San Diego office. Hummell brings more than 25 years of banking experience and more than 20 years in commercial and personal lending.

San Diego National Bank has added Reilly M. Shaughnessy as v.p. of commercial real estate. Shaughnessy was formerly at the San Diego branch of Tokai Bank of California.

Ted Phoenix, a 31-year veteran of the commercial real estate industry and long-time president of BRE Commercial/NAI, has retired. Phoenix is succeeded by new president and CEO John D. Frager, a 16-year commercial real estate veteran formerly with CB Richard Ellis. The firm also hired Paul Brown, Matthew Campbell, Shawn Craig, Peter Curry, Duncan Dodd, Andrew Ewald, Andy Head, Scott Henderson, Karen Johnson, Jack Kruger, Phillip Linton and Ryan Shea.

Rose Cady and Elliott Cushman are the 2002 recipients of SharpHealthCare’s James C. Haugh Distinguished Service Award. Cady has dedicated more than 11,000 hours to Grossmont Hospital’s Auxiliary and Foundation. Cushman has served Sharp HealthCare for more than 42 years.
