Honorees

This month, 83 women from San Diego’s leading companies will be honored at the 24th annual Tribute to Women And Industry awards at the San Diego Convention Center.

The speaker for the June 13 event will be Erin Gruwell, twice named California Teacher of the Year, and founder and president of the Tolerance Education Fund, a nonprofit organization devoted to teaching tolerance and funding college scholarships for underprivileged students.

Chairing the TWIN celebration is Susan Cornell from Nokia, a recipient in 2000. Honorary chairman is Joseph Benoit, senior vice president and division executive, Union Bank of California.

TWIN was founded 24 years ago as a celebration for the women and their employers. It has grown to become San Diego’s premier women’s recognition event, with more than 800 people attending the fast-paced luncheon at which honorees are recognized.

It also has become a key fund raiser for the YCWA’s programs that serve the women and children seeking to flee domestic violence. This year’s event is expected to raise $120,000 to help fund YWCA operations.

For information about TWIN or the event, call Suzanne McClain at the YWCA, (619) 239-0355, Ext. 218.
