Anne M. Donnellan has joined USD as professor of education and associate provost for graduate studies. She developed Los Niños, the first preschool for children with autism in North America, in San Diego in the early 1970s. She was a professor at the University of Wisconsin.

Previously a government affairs specialist for the Port of Oakland, Daniel Markels has been named director of inter-governmental relations at the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.

Joining Sempra Energy Global Enterprises as vice president of human resources is Edward A. Steiger, who has more than 20 years of experience.

Jeffrey Davidow, ambassador of the United States to Mexico from 1998 to 2002, has been named the new president of The Institute of the Americas, located on the UCSD campus.

Morrison & Foerster LLP has selected partners Karen B. Dow and John W. Campbell as co-chairs of the firm’s life sciences group. Campbell is a partner in the corporate group, and Dow is a partner in the firm who focuses on patent prosecution and counseling in biotechnology.

San Diego National Bank has hired Darr L. Woods as v.p. in credit administration to oversee loan functions at all 16 of the bank’s branches. His 24 years of banking experience include working for First Interstate and Union banks. Dino D’Auria has been named as the bank’s new senior v.p. and commercial lending division manager. Previously D’Auria worked with Comerica/Imperial Bank.

The SDSU Foundation has added senior project manager Tim Darrish to its property development team. A 24-year veteran of real estate development project management, Darrish will oversee the Paseo, a $210 million mixed-use redevelopment project of housing, campus-serving office space, retail and entertainment.

Lynda Robson has joined U.S. Bank Private Client Group as v.p. and relationship manager in the La Jolla/Golden Triangle office. Formerly she was with Bank of America.

New board members for Sharp HealthCare Foundation are Susan Mallory and Tom Tourtellott. Mallory is senior v.p. and manager of City National Bank’s San Diego Commercial Banking Services group based in La Jolla. Tourtellott is v.p. of marketing for Sundt Construction Inc. of Southern California, formerly Ninteman.

San Diego based Capstone Advisors has hired Ron Juskiewicz as director of residential asset management to supervise the company’s residential investments.

The new assistant v.p. and manager for North Island Financial Credit Union’s Scripps/Poway branch is Sharon Gentry. She was formerly the v.p. and manager of the Carlsbad and Rancho Bernardo branches of Glendale Federal Bank.

Higgs, Fletcher & Mack has selected Anna Roppo to chair the real estate practice group. Roppo has been a partner with the firm since 1997 and specializes in real estate transactions. Charles Reidelbach was named chair of the intellectual property practice group. Reidelbach has been a partner since 2001.

Vic Ryder, a 13-year veteran with California Bank & Trust, has been named senior v.p./manager of the bank’s La Mesa office. He has been in banking for 35 years. Steve Purdum has joined the bank as v.p., commercial banking officer. He was v.p./relationship manager with U.S. Bank.

La Jolla’s ActivX Biosciences Inc. has appointed J.C. MacRae to the newly created position of executive v.p. and CFO. Formerly MacRae served as executive v.p., COO and CFO for ISTA Pharmaceuticals Inc. in Irvine.

Jeremy Roth, office managing shareholder of Littler Mendelson’s San Diego office, was elected to the firm’s board and named v.p. He joined the employment and labor law firm in 1989.

Nancy R. Walters has been reappointed to western division chair for public relations and community relations by the International Council of Shopping Centers. She is president of Very Special Events, a national event marketing agency headquartered in San Diego.

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation has promoted Rudolph A. Johnson III, to v.p./convention center director.

Lynn Renee Hijar has joined AIRPAC as protocol officer in charge of community relations for Vice Admiral Michael D. Malone. She previously worked as trade research manager for the San Diego World Trade Center.

Employed with Brookfield Homes since 1989, Elizabeth Zepeda has been named risk manager of the year by the San Diego chapter of the Risk Insurance Management Society. Zepeda oversees the corporate insurance and risk management processes for the company’s operations in San Diego.

Joshua E. Tomlinson has been promoted to assistant v.p. and branch manager of the Solana Beach office of Landmark National Bank. His eight years of experience includes jobs at both San Diego National Bank and California Bank & Trust.

Former member and chairman of Chapin Shea McNitt & Carter, Edward D. Chapin has joined Gordon & Rees, LLP as a partner. Chapin has practiced in the San Diego area for more than 30 years. Joining the firm as an associate attorney, James Ryan will focus his practice on commercial real estate transactions, including negotiating and preparing leases and purchase and sale agreements for developed and undeveloped real property.

Partner Maureen Hallahan has recently been elected to the management committee at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch, LLP. Her litigation practice concentrates on business, intellectual property and employment. A new partner with the firm is Jennifer Kearns, who has been with Brobeck since 1987. New associates are Jeanne Murray, with a business litigation specialty, and Julie Remer, on the construction litigation team. Mark Olson was hired as director of technology, and Thomas Dickerson is the new director of human resources.

The Greater San Diego Business Association has announced the departure of Jeff Wergeles, board president, and Mike Solorio, treasurer. Replacing them are William Lopez and Sandra Marciari.

AMN Healthcare Services, Inc. has announced the promotion of Susan R. Nowakowski to president of the company. She will also retain her current position as COO. Nowakowski has been with AMN since 1990 and has held various positions including CFO, senior v.p. and divisional president.

Ironstone Bank’s San Diego market will be overseen by Steve Wise, who has 12 years in the banking field. It also has named its La Jolla branch management team. Michael Becker, manager of the Pearl Street office, has more 23 years of banking experience. Matt Kuczkowski, commercial banker, has been in banking nine years. Andy Wilhelmy, business banker, is a registered representative of the National Association of Securities Dealers. Working out of San Diego’s Costa Verde branch are Cheryl Gonzales, manager, with 14 years of experience; Gary Ridpath, commercial banker, and Mary Westbrook, business banker, have 14 and 17 years respectively.

Coldwell Banker Commercial Almar Real Estate Group Inc., based in Carlsbad, has added Ronald Beck and Ron Graves, both v.p.s at the Coldwell Banker Commercial-Retail Properties Group/Town Centre office, and Lars Eisenhauer and Joseph R. Crotty, sales associates at Coldwell Banker Comercial-North County Properties. Carol Behm of Coldwell Banker Commercial in the Town Centre location has been named the 2002 Office Manager of the Year.

Granger Ward, former superintendent of Grossmont Union High School District, has been hired as California statewide director of the San Diego-based AVID Center. He will work as a consultant until beginning full-time employment July 1.

Senior school psychologist with San Diego City Schools Bruce Dake has been named Outstanding School Psychologist for the San Diego region by the California Association of School Psychologists.

Satellite Security Systems has named Marvin T. Serhan as v.p. of business development. He will lead the company’s homeland security initiative. Serhan has more than 27 years of experience in the U.S. Navy.

Thomas Albright, professor of neuroscience and director of the vision center laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He studies neuronal structures that lead to visual perception.

Michael J. Smith has been hired as director of education at San Diego’s Platt College of Design. The college specializes in multimedia graphics training.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego has named Brent V. Woods and Jeffery D. Yates new board members. Woods is the managing director of investments at Brandes Investment Partners. Yates is the senior v.p. of UBS and also sits on the San Diego Natural History Museum board.

Cheri DeQuattro joins STAR/PAL as the new development director. She previously served six years with the Clinton Administration.

With more than 20 years of experience, Ken Halligan has been named the new general manager of The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe. Halligan, a Canadian native, has been operations manager in several Westin Hotels and Country Clubs.

CancerVax has appointed three new members to its management team. Formerly a v.p. of product development group for Pfizer, Martin Mattingly is new executive v.p. of marketing and business development. Steven Ruhl and Rabi Prusti will oversee production and quality control of CancerVax’s vaccine.

Ligand Pharmaceuticals has promoted Andres Negro-Vilar to executive v.p. of research and development. Negro-Vilar has served as v.p. for research and development for the past four years. Tod Mertes has been promoted to v.p., controller. Mertes was with PricewaterhouseCoopers. As Tom Silberg, former executive v.p. and COO, departs, Gian Aliprandi has been promoted to senior vp for technical, supply and international operations.

Carol Behm of Coldwell Banker Commercial in Towne Centre was named the 2002 office manager of the year. Behm handles personnel, financial and operational areas for the company.

Eileen Tansey of Keller Williams Realty was named Metro Agent of the Year 2002. Tansey is active with San Diego, state and National Association of Realtors, Women’s Council of Realtors, and the YMCA.

Mayor Dick Murphy has reappointed Nora Jaeschke and appointed Fern Steiner to the San Diego County Water Authority Board. Steiner is a partner at the law firm of Tosdal, Levine, Smith, Steiner & Wax, and Jaeschke is president of N.N. Jaeschke Inc.

Lal Yapa has joined the Pacific Building Group as senior estimator. Previously, Yapa was with an Arizona construction firm.

KBM has hired Eric Kay as sales and marketing manager. Kay brings over ten years of experience to his new position. Kim Piker is working on KBM’s management team, revising and improving training for frontline employees. Nancy Ziter has been promoted to director of janitorial operations. John Kyle was promoted to the security management staff.

Fred Sagheb has joined Tucker Sadler Noble Castro Architects as project manager. He is providing oversight for the design of the new San Diego Main Library Downtown in San Diego’s East Village neighborhood. He has 30 years in the field. Also hired was Devin Macaulay as business development assistant.

Keeton Construction Co. Inc. has appointed Matt Blomgren as job superintendent charged with project scheduling, budget and construction coordination and quality control. Hired as a project manager was William Hoover, who has 25 years of experience in the construction industry.

Foley & Lardner have announced that a team of business reorganization and securities litigation attorney, led by Peter W. Ito and Michael P. McCloskey, have joined the firm’s Downtown and Del Mar offices. They will be joined by Andrew B. Serwin and Scott W. Sigman. Ito, Serwin and Sigman were with Baker & McKenzie, and McCloskey was with Gordon & Rees. Attorney Arthur Wellman has been promoted to senior counsel at the firm. He will perform associate evaluations and review financial data and business planning.

Signature Funding Inc., has named Heather Sonksen as a licensed mortgage loan specialist. Sonsken has more than 10 years of customer service experience, and will be responsible for business in UTC and Carmel Valley.

Tartan Media Group Inc. has appointed Gail Ann Montank as executive v.p. and CFO to oversee both corporate expenditures and funding and the client services division.

Sandy Fish, with more than 25 years in real estate sales and financing and banking has been named co-owner and sales manager of RE/MAX of Rancho Bernardo, joining Bill Simmons, broker-owner. Fish succeeds Linda Lambson, who retired.

Superior Court Judge Robert E. May has retired after more than 17 years on the bench. He will enter the private sector to do mediation and arbitration.
