Ron Mittag has joined the North County Economic Development Council as president and CEO. Previously, Mittag advised regional businesses and governments for the County of San Diego’s Office of Trade and Business Development.

The San Diego Film Foundation has selected Wally Schlotter as chairman. He will assist with the strategic vision of the organization, as well as production of the San Diego Film Festival.

Sharp HealthCare named Dr. Neil Treister as medical director and Glenn Schweighardt as manager of the Health Screening Program. Treister oversees all medical aspects of the program, and Schweighardt will be responsible for everyday operations.

Leon Santoro, g.m. of Winemaker at Escondido’s Orfila Vineyards, was inducted into the “Winemaker Wall of Fame” at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, where he previously worked.

Janice Patterson has been promoted to project manager at Barratt American, with duties in the North County. Patterson is a 21-year veteran of the real estate and development industry.

Cavalcade of Sports Media Inc. has named Patrick Bidwill as president of its affiliate Sports Broadcasting Co. Bidwill’s family owns the Arizona Cardinals.

Paul M. Coleman Jr. has joined Southwest Community Bank’s Carlsbad administration office as senior v.p., credit administration. His 32 years of banking experience include positions at Bank of America, Grossmont Bank, City Commerce Bank and most recently, Bank of Petaluma.

California Bank & Trust has hired Linda Stouffer as v.p., commercial banking, in the Downtown office. She is returning to banking after an extensive break during which she owned and operated a service business. Trina Brown has been appointed v.p./branch manager for the newly opened California Bank & Trust office in City Heights.

Bank of America has appointed Susan K. Couch as senior v.p./senior client manager for business banking. She has worked with the company since 1990.

David J. Gonzales is branch manager of the newly opened Union Bank of California on Dove Canyon Road in Rancho Bernando. He previously managed the bank’s La Mesa and Mira Mesa branches.

Shannon Malone has been named director for Spa Tiki, a new day spa in the Harbor Club. She was national director of spa development for Steiner Day Spa Division.

Honored at the National Sales and Marketing Awards of the National Association of Home Builders international show in Las Vegas were Donna Lutz and Heidi Schmid, Prudential New Homes Sales Team of the Year. They sold $65 million in urban housing in San Diego over nine months.

Globe Theatres has hired Michael G. Murphy, who was managing director of the Austin Lyric Opera, as g.m. In his new position Murphy will oversee areas of production, facilities, theater management, human resources and education.

Aaron H. Katz and Stephanie Sontag have been appointed judges of the San Diego County Superior Court. In 2001, Katz was president of the San Diego County Bar Association. He is with Chapin, Shea, McNitt & Carter law firm. Sontag is a partner in the law firm of Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch. She was president of the San Diego County Bar Association in 2000.

Ernest M. Gross has been appointed court commissioner in North County Superior Court. Gross had a general civil litigation practice for 20 years that focused on personal injury and medical malpractice.

China Miner Gorman has been appointed president of Lee Hecht Harrison. She also serves on the board of the Association of Career Management and Consulting Firms International.

Lex Lyon, president of ADME and vice president of PRA Destination Management, has received his Destination Management Certification.

Mary Doyle has been appointed director of communications for Girl Scouts, San Diego-Imperial Council. She has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of public relations and communications.

Previously senior account executive at Astor Broadcasting Group, Thomas Noto has been appointed director of business development for Smith Consulting Architects.

Ware Malcomb, an architectural and interior design firm, has promoted Devin Beale to project manager. He has been with the company since 1998, and was involved in opening a San Diego office two years ago.

Chip Livingston has joined Pacific Republic Mortgage Corp. as a loan officer. He serves at the company’s La Jolla office.

Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. has added Jeff Blackmun as v.p. of research and development and executive chef. He has 20 years of culinary experience, most recently as v.p. of research and development at RTM Restaurant group, the largest Arby’s franchisee.

Bruce A. Schmith has been appointed senior project manager in Berryman & Henigar’s San Diego office. Schmith has more than 18 years of experience in transportation and civil/site engineering.

David Dannenberg has opened his own business, Resort Recovery Systems, to offer resort developers a way of collecting and maximizing delinquent accounts.

Blaine G. Handy has been appointed health center administrator for the La Costa Glen Carlsbad, a continuing care retirement community. With more than 15 years of experience in the field of health center administration, Handy will be responsible for day-to-day operations.

Jack Rydell has joined Willdan’s San Diego office as supervising traffic engineer. Rydell previously worked with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. Willdan also hired Christopher J. Roberts as senior civil engineer with more than 13 years of experience in the field; Joan Mumford as marketing and proposals coordinator, and Aaron Goodman as senior plans examiner. Goodman is providing a fire and life safety review for the Encinitas Fire Department.

Corporate Real Estate Advisors has added Ron Magnaghi as senior director in the San Diego office. Magnaghi has experience as a senior v.p. at Irving Hughes and as a senior marketing consultant at Grubb & Ellis.

Chuck Obina has been named executive director of Positive Employment Options, an employment, education and vocational resource center for those with HIV/AIDS returning to work in San Diego.

Western Pacific Housing’s Scot Sandstrom has been re-elected membership chair for the Building Industry Association of San Diego, and secretary/treasurer on the main board.

Legacy Bank has hired Richard Powell as v.p. and commercial loan officer, and Karen Smith as loan administrator. Powell has more than 30 years of experience in corporate banking, and Smith has worked for Scripps Bank, Bank of Southern California and San Diego Trust & Savings Bank. Thomas W. Carter has been selected as executive v.p. and chief credit officer at the bank. Previously he was at First National Bank in San Diego.

The San Diego Association of Governments has promoted Cynthia Burke to director of the regional agency’s Criminal Justice Division. Burke, who has worked for the agency since 1992, was a senior regional planner.

Casey, Gerry, Reed & Schenk has named as new associates Wendy Behan and Wendy Davisson. Behan will concentrate her practice on the firm’s growing pharmaceutical practice, while Davisson will focus on product liability and personal injury cases.

Booz Allen Hamilton’s San Diego office has announced that two of its senior executives, Tammy Paight and Pamela McPhail, are winners of the firm’s 2003 Woman of Distinction Awards.

They are Jim King and Stephanie Schaefer, senior associates specializing in retail and office properties respectively, and Daniel Tate and Greg Lewis, who focus on office and industrial sectors respectively. King rejoins Burnham where he began his career in 1987. Schaefer has five years of commercial real estate experience. Tate was a software consultant with Eyecues Education Systems Inc., and Lewis was with Lewis Properties and XRI Medical Construction.
