Jason Hall was promoted to president and COO of Re/Max Associates, San Diego, the county’s largest Re/Max franchise with nearly 400 agents affiliated with 12 offices.

Barbara Hosaka was named executive v.p./CFO at Neighborhood National Bank. She joined it after 25 years at Peninsula Bank, where she was one of the original employees.

Hank Cunningham, director of San Diego’s Community and Economic Development Department, will continue to represent the city internationally since his re-election to the board of the International Economic Development Council at the association’s annual meeting in Cincinnati. Cunningham’s career in community development spans 27 years, during which he has worked for a national consulting firm and three municipalities. He has been active in the international group since 1978.

Charles H. Dick Jr., managing partner of the San Diego office of Baker & McKenzie, received the 2003 Daniel T. Broderick III Award at the 19th annual Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers Dinner. The award is presented to a San Diego attorney who “epitomizes the highest standards of civility, integrity and professionalism” in trial advocacy.

Patricia E. Cowan was appointed executive director for the International Visitors Council of San Diego. She has more than 12 years of experience in international education and cultural exchange. Other board changes are Sally S. Baldus, president, replacing Michael Grisdale, who remains a director; Doug Myrland, treasurer; Marty Eberhardt, secretary; Nancy Koch, v.p.; and members Elizabeth Gary, Mimi Mortensen, Frances Schultz and Michael O’Brien.

Mickie Beyer, CEO of the Council of Community Clinics and its related organizations, resigned to pursue other interests in the health care arena. She has held the position for nine years, and is being replaced by COO Vicki Mizel, as interim CEO.

David L. Norgard was named v.p. of programs by Episcopal Community Services to oversee the agency’s 40 existing programs and future efforts. Formerly, he was director of Episcopal Services in Minneapolis.

William G. Rice was appointed president, CEO and director of Cylene Pharmaceuticals, formerly Cyternex Inc. He founded and was president, CEO and director of Achillion Pharmaceuticals. Cylene Pharmaceuticals is an oncology drug discovery and development company.

Invitrogen Corp. appointed Benjamin Bulkley to senior v.p. of commercial operations, and promoted John D. Thompson to senior v.p. of corporate development. Bulkley’s 15 years of experience include being v.p. of social services for General Electric’s Medical Systems. For three years, Thompson has been a v.p. for corporate development.

Heather Milne, San Diego Venture Group executive director, resigned to accept a position as marketing specialist with Cooley Godward. Milne will continue to run SDVG until a new executive director is hired and trained.

Newly appointed board members for the Jewish Community Foundation include Sophie Brody of Rancho Santa Fe, a member of United Jewish Federation Women’s Division and Agency for Jewish Education; Elliot Feuerstein of La Jolla, Sharp Hospital Foundation board and leader at Congregation Beth Israel; Henry Haimsohn of La Jolla, United Way and Congregation Beth Israel; Merle Fischlowitz of Poway, founding president of the Jewish Cultural and Services Center; David Kabakoff a volunteer for Congregation Beth Am; David Mandlebaum of La Jolla, on the Secrest Village board; and Paul Nierman, president, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center.

Terry Player, with 30 years in advertising, was named executive director of the nonprofit San Diego Advertising Fund for Emergencies. She operates Terry Player Associates, an advertising consulting firm.

Joseph G. Charest, a public relations veteran, established MarCom Alliance, also called McA, a new marketing communications firm in Carlsbad. He worked for 12 years as president of The Gable Group.

Elizabeth Ruiz and Drew Burks have joined the metro office of Keller Williams Realty. Ruiz has been in real estate for two years, and Burks has nine years of real estate sales experience.

Superior Court Judge James R. Milliken retires this month after 15 years on the bench, 11 of them in leadership positions. Before he was a judge, Milliken was a partner and managing shareholder at McInnis, Fitzgerald, Rees, Sharkey & McIntyre.

Sherrie-Lyn M. Thompson joined LEAD in a new position as v.p., programs. For the past six she was chief of staff at San Diego Dialogue.

Avencom, an East Village-based Web site developer, hired Joe Ross as executive v.p. He formerly was policy adviser to San Diego Councilman Scott Peters and as chief of policy for former Councilwoman Barbara Warden.

James Mumford, president of San Diego-based Good Earth Plants, was named chairman of the California Interior Plantscape Association. He has been active with the organization since its founding in 1984.

Monty A. McIntyre became a shareholder with Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek, a law firm, and was appointed to a three-year term on the executive council of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. His specialty is civil cases. He was county bar president in 2002.

Coreen Murillo joined Cavignac & Associates as an account administrator, and Leslie Hahn was hired as an account manager. Murillo previously spent two years as an underwriting assistant for La Jolla Pacific Insurance Agency. Hahn, with 23 years of experience, worked most recently with Allenbrooke Insurance in San Diego.

Ryan Young Interiors promoted Irma Shaw to senior project manager. Her first major international project will be in Beijing, China, this year. She has been with Ryan since 1998.

San Diego County’s Superior Court judges elected Assistant Presiding Judge John S. Einhorn as presiding judge for a three-year term beginning in January. Independent Calendar Judge Janis Sammartino was elected as assistant presiding judge, the second woman ever to attain that position. Einhorn, an attorney for 27 years, was appointed to the bench in 1995. Sammartino was appointed to the Municipal Court in 1994 and Superior Court in 1995.

Benedetto Communications Inc. promoted Rana Kay to account executive and hired Sarah Iantosca as account coordinator in the firm’s public relations division.

William G. Klehm III, president and g.m. of Newgen Results Corp., was one of six alumni of Northwood University in Michigan to receive the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award. He has more than 20 years in the automotive industry and has been with Newgen since 2001.

Christy Curtis was hired as an associate in the Downtown office of Foley & Lardner. She joins the general commercial litigation practice group. Previously she was a clerk with a New York City law firm.

Joyce Powers, Oceanside’s redevelopment manager, resigned to take a similar position with the city of Riverside. She has been with Oceanside for three and one-half years.

Anthony (Tony) Yen was appointed senior v.p. of lithography market development by Cymer Inc., supplier of excimer light sources used in semiconductor manufacturing. He was co-director of the Lithography Division with International Sematech.

Milo Architecture Group Inc. promoted Tre Arnold to principal and v.p. He has been with the group for six years.

Elected to the board of the Museum of Contemporary Art were Nancy B. Tieken a member of the museum’s contemporary collectors since 1998, and J. Todd Figi, a collector of Latin American art. Both live in La Jolla.

Anadys Pharmaceuticals Inc. appointed George A. Scangos to its board. He has been president and CEO of Exelixis Inc. since 1996.

Erin Gillooly joined Julia Simms Public Relations as an account coordinator. She is a recent graduate of USC’s Annenberg School for Communications.

Named to new positions by Mesa Distributing Co. Inc. were Chris Ward and Mitch Morgan, v.p. of sales and v.p. of operations respectively. Ward has been with the company for 17 years, Morgan for 15.

Frank E. Hutchins joined Southwest Community Bank as v.p., business banking manager for San Diego and Orange counties. He has more than 17 years of experience with community banks.

The San Diego-based litigation firm of Wilson Petty Kosmo & Turner added associates Heidi S. Bloomfield and LaToya S. Redd. Bloomfield’s specialty is general business litigation and employment law, and Redd focuses on product liability.

Marcie Denberg, most recently After School Program coordinator for the Del Mar Union School District, was named move-in coordinator for The Patrician full-service senior residence in La Jolla’s University Towne Centre. She previously was financial analyst for United Health Group in Philadelphia.

The San Diego Foundation has named a new Charitable Giving Team led by Charlene Pryor, v.p. of endowments and planned giving. Working with her is Jill Houska, v.p. of donor advised funds; and Kari Breitweiser, director of donor advised funds. Berit Durler joined the foundation as executive director of the San Diego Charitable Real Estate Foundation. Pryor, previously was the foundation’s v.p. of philanthropy.

Classic Residence by Hyatt named Steve Brudnick as executive director at La Jolla Village Towers, a continuing care retirement community in the Golden Triangle. He has 10 years of experience in this field, the past eight at The Park Lane, a Hyatt residence in Monterey.

Loyall Wharton, a registered professional engineer, opened the office of Lawhart Engineers Inc. in San Diego County. The firm specializes in construction management, and structure and civil inspection services mainly for publicly funded infrastructure and transportation projects. Wharton has 26 years of experience.

Mark Krask, a native San Diegan with 18 years in sales management, and Leo Charpentier, with 18 years of landscape construction, have joined N.N. Jaeschke Inc., a property management firm.

Mike Manika joined Mitchell International, an informational technology provider to the insurance industry, as v.p. of strategic corporate accounts. He was with ClaimIQ as v.p. of sales.

The new program director at The Patrician, a full-service senior residence in La Jolla, is Lynda M. Pedersen. She was program coordinator at Poway Adult Day HealthCare Center.

A new associate at Fish & Richardson is Kris B. Panikowski, who was formerly with Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps. Her specialties are employment, business and trade secret litigation.

Michael Harlow joined Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. as manager of sales. He was international sales and marketing manager for SAS Access Systems.

Community National Bank promoted Jean Westerhold to assistant v.p. and manager of the bank’s Fallbrook office. She has been in retail banking 33 years.

Lisa Ann Barkett was named to the board of the San Diego County Fair. She also serves on the boards of the Old Globe Theatre, the La Jolla Foundation and the YMCA. She is v.p. of the Merjan Financial Corp.

Manpower Staffing Services of San Diego owners Phil Blair and Mel Katz will be inducted into Junior Achievement San Diego Business Hall of Fame Nov. 6 at the Hotel del Coronado, in recognition of their contributions to the community.

Jason Jackson was named top unit producer for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, placing him in the top 10 percent of loan officers in the U.S. and fifth in Southern California. He was named California Partner of the year and Preferred Loan Officer for several San Diego builders.

Russell Hudyma, president of Paragon Optics Inc., has joined the Cymer Inc. Scientific Advisory Board. Cymer supplies light sources used in semiconductor manufacturing.

Robbins Jorgensen Christopher, an architectural firm, promoted Patricia Trauth and Kristine Steffen to senior design associate and associate respectively. Trauth has 20 years of experience, four with this firm. Steffen’s 15-year career includes two with this company.

Structural Genomix Inc. promoted Stephen Wasserman to director of X-Ray Technology. His appointment coincides with expansion of the company’s collaboration agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals.

McGraw/Baldwin Architects promoted Gary Oshima to associate. He joined the firm in 1998 and works with many biomedical research and manufacturing clients.

Bruce McCarty, who joined IronStone Bank as a business banker in La Jolla, was elected v.p. He has 29 years of banking experience and is based in the La Jolla branch of IronStone

Tom Munro, former Wireless Facilities Inc. president, has joined the advisory board of Kineticom Inc., a supplier of technical staffing services for the venture capital community.

Javade Chaudhri joined Sempra Energy as executive v.p. and general counsel. He had been senior v.p. and general counsel of Gateway Inc. since 2001.

Jim Eyerman joined the survey department of Masson & Associates Inc. in Escondido. He was division manager for surveying and mapping at Dudek Associates Inc., and had his own business.

CSA Travel Protection promoted David Craychee to director of sales and direct marketing. He was director of retail sales.

Randy Boyer joined Keeton Construction Co. Inc. as an estimator. He has been in construction for 30 years, most recently with Kunzik Construction Co. in San Marcos.
