*** Maureen Stapleton received the volunteer of the year/Naish award for her seven years on the board of directors of United Way of San Diego County and five years on the executive committee. Stapleton is g.m. of the San Diego County Water Authority. *** Elizabeth W. Jaeschke joined Barratt American as director of homeowner relations, a newly created department of the firm. From 1987 to 1996 she was an executive in her family’s property management company, N.N. Jaeschke Inc. *** Joseph DeNigro was appointed to the North Island Credit Union supervisory committee, which acts as a watchdog for members. He has more than 20 years of experience in command and senior management in the Navy. *** Richard C. Joy was appointed v.p. of strategic planning for National University. He has 30 years of experience in engineering and manufacturing operations management in the electronics industry. He founded his own company, C4S Inc., in 1999 as a consultant to the electronics industry. *** Legacy Bank in La Jolla appointed Catherine Somhegyi Nicholas to its board. Her 18 years of experience includes her present position as portfolio manager of Global Equities for Nicholas Applegate Capital Management. *** Kurt Bausback has joined the San Diego division of D.R. Horton Homes/Western Pacific Housing as director of planning acquisition. He most recently was director of forward planning at KB Home in San Diego. Also at D.R. Horton/Western Pacific, Gary Jones was promoted to director of construction from assistant superintendent. Jones will be responsible for managing all field operations for the San Diego division. *** Ray Aragon of the San Diego County Department of the Public Defender, the only candidate for the State Bar board to have run unopposed, was elected for a three-year term. He is a past president of San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association. He is the first minority attorney to hold this position. *** Cheryl D. Kendrick was appointed to the Commission on the Status of Women. She was campaign director for United Way of San Diego County from January 2000 to February of this year. *** Alan Pentico was appointed director of public affairs for the San Diego County Apartment Association to coordinate legislative advocacy and activities for nearly 3,000 members. Since 1997, he has been a senior policy adviser in the office of Supervisor Dianne Jacobs. *** David Casey Jr., a trial lawyer and senior partner with the San Diego law office of Casey Gerry Reed & Schenk, began his term as president of the Washington, D.C.,-based Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Following terms as v.p. and president-elect, Casey will serve as president for a year. He has been on the organization’s board since 1984. *** Coldwell Banker Commercial-South Bay has expanded with a new partner and three associates: Jorge Stambuk, senior v.p./principal, with 17 years in the field; Marc Bonando, Brian M. Intlekofer, both specialists in industrial real estate; and Alex R. Stambuk, assistant while he prepares for the real estate exam. *** Veteran insurance executive James R. Sommerville joined Driver Alliant Insurance Services as v.p. and broker. Formerly, he was with Travelers Property Casualty Co.’s San Diego office. *** John Hradnansky was appointed COO of Dimension One Spas, replacing Jim McClure. He has spent nearly 20 years working with Fortune 100 and small-cap companies. *** Promoted to v.p. at Nuffer, Smith, Tucker public relations, was Michael Rose. His 14 years of communication experience include newspaper reporting and editing in Boston. *** Attorney Colin H. Murray was elected partner at the San Diego office of Baker & McKenzie. A member of the litigation group, he formerly worked as a deputy district attorney in San Diego from 1993 to 2000. *** Joining Smith Consulting Architects as a project architect was Norman Barrett, formerly he was director of design for MCG Architecture in San Diego. *** Gabriela Dow was promoted to v.p. of communications for GovPartner, an e-government provider. She formerly developed and implemented public outreach programs for public agencies through Katz and Associates, San Diego. *** Additions to the staff at KMP Architecture & Engineering include Jared Ataiyan, project architect, and Gabrielle Schlesinger, architectural designer. Ataiyan has 20 years of experience. Schlesinger most recently worked for a Los Angeles firm. *** Dr. Gary S. Firestein, professor of medicine and chief of the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology at the UCSD School of Medicine, was named founding director of the UCSD Health Sciences Clinical Investigation Institute. *** USE Credit Union promoted Tricia Armstrong to call center manager at its corporate office. She joined USE in 2001 as assistant call manager when she left a position in Orange County. *** Di Zinno Thompson marketing agency hired Robert Borges as creative director. He formerly was with Arnold Worldwide of Boston and has 10 years of agency experience. *** Chéri R. Pierre was named assistant executive director of the Jenna Druck Foundation. Formerly she worked with Project Concern International and the Callaway Golf Co. Foundation. *** Environmental Business Solutions promoted Karen Stackpole to project professional. She has been a staff scientist with the company since 2000. Before that she was an environmental analyst in Connecticut. *** Regina Malveaux joined Southbay Community Services as director of community development to create and implement affordable housing and economic development strategy. Previously Malveaux worked with Citibank’s Economic Development Division. *** Bruce Hueners, v.p. of marketing for Palomar Technologies, was elected to the 10-member editorial board of Advanced Packaging Magazine. *** Michael Vivoli, formerly a partner with Morris Sullivan & Vivoli, has started his own law firm, Vivoli & Associates. He will practice general civil litigation mainly in business and real estate. *** Jeremy Rappaport was named director of operations for The Crosby private residential and golf community at Rancho Santa Fe. He has been development manager there for the past four years, and before that worked for Continental Homes as site development and landscape superintendent at Rancho Carillo. *** Dr. Charles H. Spruck III joined the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center as an assistant professor in the cell biology program of this private independent research institute affiliated with Sharp HealthCare. He was with Scripps Research Institute where he completed studies that were part of a postdoctoral fellowship. *** Michael Rennie was appointed associate director for marketing and development for the Poway Center for the Performing Arts Foundation. *** The San Diego Foundation named Berit Nielsen Durler as executive director of the San Diego Charitable Real Estate Foundation, an affiliate of the foundation that manages real estate donations. A San Diego native, she worked as COO for UCSD’s extended studies and public programs. *** James R. Roherty was named president of the Pacific Building Group, a full-service contractor, tenant improvement specialist and maintenance provider. He was v.p. of construction for American Assets Inc., in San Diego. *** Mary K. Westbrook, with a 17-year banking background, joined Landmark National Bank as v.p. and business development manager. Most recently she was a business banker with Ironstone Bank in UTC. *** Roel Construction hired Travis Brandt as project engineer. His nine years of construction experience includes working for Perini Building Corp. Roel Construction also promoted Carol Winton from project coordinator to senior project coordinator and Jennifer LaFrance from project coordinator to senior project coordinator. *** Melissa Berg was hired as a project engineer by Bilbro Construction Co. She formerly was with Malhas Consulting Group, a structural engineering and architecture firm in San Diego. *** Nora Jaeschke, president of N.N. Jaeschke Inc. received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Association of Community Managers for her contributions since establishing her company in 1971. Also honored was Dawn Braddy of the N.N. Jaeschke Co. for communications; J. David Rauch, ProTech Building Services of San Diego, Excellence in Service award; and Sheri White, Castle Breckenridge Management of La Mesa, Spirit award. *** Ensemble Communications appointed Nick Pianim, v.p. of corporate development; Warren Roddy, v.p. of global sales; and Kevin Ryan, v.p. of marketing and business development. She formerly worked as a public relations manager for a software provider in San Jose. *** William Ostrem, president and CEO of The EastLake Co., was named vice-chair of the University of 25-member San Diego Real Estate Institute’s Residential Real Estate Committee. *** Dr. Robert Yuhas was appointed medical director for the health care center at La Costa Glen Carlsbad, a new continuing care retirement community. A specialist in internal medicine and geriatrics, he has been in private practice in Solana Beach since 1978. *** Jim Nantais joined Evanco Realty Advisors Inc., as v.p. of finance and acquisitions. He has been in commercial real estate finance and development for more than 30 years. *** A 26-year commercial developer, Duncan A. Budinger was hired as v.p. of retail development by McMillin Commercial. He will represent McMillin in acquisition and development of southern and central California retail centers. He was v.p. of development for TrizecHahn Development. *** VirtGame Corp., a provider of software solutions for regulated gaming and lottery industries, named Glenn Wichinsky as president and general counsel for the company, and Bruce Merati, current president and CFO, as CEO and continuing CFO. Wichinsky recently joined VirtGame’s board; Merati has been with the company since 1998. *** Elsa Castillo was named project coordinator at San Diego-based Asset Marketing Systems Inc. She joined the company in 2002 as a human resource representative. *** Kevin Tilden was named board chairman of San Diego Theatres, a new nonprofit subsidiary that manages and operates the San Diego Civic Theatre, and upon its restoration, the historic Balboa Theatre. He is director of communications for American Water Works Co. *** Garry Papers, who has 20 years of experience in architecture, planning and urban design, was hired as the Centre City Development Corp. manager of architecture and planning. He replaces Walter Rask who held the position for eight years before moving to San Francisco. Papers was with Austin Veum Robbins Parshalle Architects. *** Glorietta Bay Inn promoted Kim Akers to g.m. and hired Camille Lutes as director of marketing and sales. Akers, who grew up in San Diego, began her career in real estate. Lutes formerly was with the Westgate Hotel Downtown. *** Joining the office of Keller Williams Realty are Neal Vandewalle, Terry McDonnel, Reem Katanani, Ted Wright, Susan Forster and Justin Chimento. Vandewalle has lived Downtown for eight years and has 35 years of experience in business. McDonnel, also an eight-year San Diego resident, was in real estate in central California and Canada. Katanani was a real estate administrative assistant who became a licensed agent, and Wright, a San Diego native, switched from a computer career to real estate. Forster and Chimento are directors of career development with Keller Williams Metro and Inland who specialize in training and team building. *** DriveCam Video Systems appointed Del Lisk as v.p. of fleet safety services. For the past 21 years, Lisk has been with Smith System Driver Improvement, serving as president since 1997. *** Kevin A. Canning was named v.p. of planning and acquisition; and Shelly Minegar was appointed controller of Brehm, a home building company. Canning previously was v.p. and managing principal of Culbertson, Adams & Associates for more than 10 years. Minegar was a controller with TrizecHahn Development. *** Ciro Villa was hired as branch manager of the San Ysidro branch of San Diego National Bank. His 15 years of banking experience include a recent branch manager position for CitiBank. *** Stephen T. Sigler, with the firm since 1995, was elected a shareholder in the Neil Dymott law firm.
