I stay up late and get up early,” says Joshua Billauer, explaining how he manages to handle the three passionate pursuits of his life — his career as a financial adviser, his role as president of the Life Rolls On Foundation and his surfing hobby.

Billauer, a resident of Pacific Beach, spends a considerable amount of his time with the foundation, an organization formed in 2002 to fund research and educational efforts on behalf of people suffering from paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries. Billauer’s younger brother, Jesse, 24, is a quadriplegic, the result of a surfing accident seven years ago.

Billauer helped his brother create the Life Rolls On Foundation and, as its president, coordinates a number of fund-raising events during the year. Billauer designed and updates the foundation’s Web site (liferollson.org), and donates his time to help another similar organization, They Will Surf Again.

As an adviser, Billauer manages the finances of corporate executives of public and private companies from San Diego to Orange County. He and business partner Jeff Brown comprise the Brown and Billauer Advisory Group of the Prudential Securities Division of Wachovia Securities. He’s now in his sixth year with the company.

Like his brother, Billauer has a great love of surfing. He was a member of the UCSD Surf Team and holds several national titles in the sport. He says he has a cameo appearance in a new surfing feature film, “Step Into Liquid,” that was released in August. His brother, who lives in Cardiff, still enjoys surfing, despite his paralysis. “We want to help find a cure for spinal cord injuries and bring an awareness to the public about the injury,” says Billauer.

On Sept. 5, his 27th birthday, Billauer will put aside his three big pursuits temporarily for another momentous occasion — his marriage to Ricki Edell, a consultant he met three years ago, at the Downtown Hyatt Manchester.
