Job, family and community service are important to East County resident Selina Campbell, Cox Communications’ video operations manager. “I oversee the delivery of the cable system’s video product to more than 700,000 customers here in San Diego,” she says.

“If there’s a problem, say with CNN or USA networks, video engineers troubleshoot to determine what the problem might be, whether it’s at the network itself or with specific equipment we have on site.

“I have a fantastic group, a very knowledgeable team, a lot of folks that have been with the Cox system for 20 years or more.”

Originally from Newport News, Va., Campbell holds a bachelor’s in mass communications and an MBA in business administration. Being an adventuresome sort, she was delighted when Cox offered her a move to San Diego five years ago. Her daughter recently graduated from high school and will be off to Tufts University in the fall.

That will be an adjustment for Campbell, but she says people in telecommunications are accustomed to change and she has plenty of leisure activities to keep herself occupied. She takes leadership courses and seminars constantly, loves to hike and bike and she recently started playing golf.

Campbell, 34, extols the opportunities offered by the Jackie Robinson YMCA and says sitting on its board of managers gives her the sense of giving back. “It’s a safe place where kids can go to get the support they need.”

She also serves on the board of Walden Family Services, a nonprofit organization for children who cannot live with their birth families because of abuse or neglect or because of developmental disabilities. “Walden trains and certifies foster parents and places children in foster homes suited to their needs,” she says.

Campbell tries to exemplify in her life what she would instill in others less fortunate than she.
