Tradeshow Week magazine has recognized Carol Wallace, president and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Corp., as one of the top six public facility executives in the U.S.

San Diego National Bank has hired Virginia “Gini” Craig to succeed Susan Roth as v.p./branch manager of the Carlsbad location. Craig relocated to the West Coast in 1996 to serve with Bancforce Inc. She is president of the San Diego chapter of Financial Women International. The bank also hired Carisa Azzi, assistant v.p., who was with Comerica/Imperial Beach. Promoted by the bank were Richard Davidson and Joylyn Keil, both bank employees for two years.

Security Business Bank has appointed Kim Tronerud-Coy v.p. of commercial lending. Tronerud-Coy has more than 27 years of experience in community banking.

Women First Healthcare has named Michael Sember president and COO. Sember has 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, most recently with Deltagen Inc. and Elan Corp.

The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center Foundation has named Karen Amoroso director of development. She has more than 15 years of fund-raising and public relations experience.

Cozen O’Connor attorney Blanca Quintero has been appointed to chair the California State Bar’s Committee on Ethnic Minority Relations for 2003 and 2004. She is an associate in the firm’s San Diego office.

SDSU has named Vikki Serrano-Ruiz travel study director for the college of extended studies. Serrano-Ruiz has been at SDSU since 2001, when she was the academic program and international study coordinator for the college of business administration.

The SDSU Alumni Association has selected San Diego native Chet Carney as honorary homecoming chair. An SDSU student cheerleader who graduated in 1982, Carney works for the city of San Diego.

Ed Robinson has joined the intellectual property practice in the Del Mar office of Foley & Lardner. He formerly was a patent agent specializing in biotechnology, chemical and pharmaceutical patent prosecution.

Richard Clegg has joined the law firm of Seltzer Caplan McMahon Vitek as a member of the litigation group. He was formerly with SAIC and then joined Christie, Parker and Hale in Newport Beach.

Lynne Fruehling of Fruehling Communications has been named president of the company and its subsidiary, Red Lizard Creative. She replaces William Fruehling, who will be board chair. Lynne Fruehling most recently was with Scripps Healthcare Inc., and Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.

Duckor, Spradling & Metzger has named Yvonne Nichols as an associate in the firm’s tax planning and advocacy and estate planning and probate practices divisions.

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton attorney Robert Gerber has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Nominees Evaluation Commission by the board of the State Bar of California. Gerber practices with the intellectual property and business trial practice groups at Sheppard Mullin. W. Scott Biel has been named as special counsel for the law firm. Biel will be with the real estate, land use, natural resources and environment practice group in Del Mar Heights.

Superior Court judges have appointed Adam Wertheimer, a sole practitioner for 17 years, as a commissioner hearing family support cases in the Downtown courthouse. A certified family specialist, he has chaired the Family Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association since 1977.

Merit property management executive Bill Stewart, town manager for Santaluz community in North County, received a Vision Award from the California Association of Community Managers for excellence in community management.

AM Advertising has added Jason Wilensky as a research/media executive and Kathryn Briney as a brand manager, and promoted Lisa Penwell to assistant account executive. Wilensky was with MBA Media Group, and Briney worked for AMN Healthcare.

The Bishop’s School has named David Mitchell assistant head. Mitchell previously served as senior v.p. and director of institute relations at The Neurosciences Institute.

Jennette La Quire of McGraw/Baldwin Architects has been promoted to project architect in the company’s San Diego office. La Quire has been with the firm since 1999.

Cavignac & Associates has hired Julia Plemmons as an account administrator. Plemmons previously worked as a customer service representative for Tyler-Hart Insurance Services in El Centro.

USE Credit Union has hired Jolly Sinha as marketing analyst. The company has promoted Amy Sain to assistant v.p., quality service; Felicia Boucher-Gogol to central operations manager; and Lloyd Trilling to v.p. and regional sales manager for Southern California. Previously, Sinha was marketing officer for Omega Financial. Sain joined the firm in 1997. Boucher-Gogol has been with the company 12 years, and Trilling joined the firm in 2003 but has 25 years in the field.

Tony L. Spears has been elected to the governing body of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. Spears is senior director at the San Diego Office of Education.

Asset Marketing also has cited Mike Botkin in its Top 150 Producers for his work at the helm of Preservation Financial and Insurance Services Inc. Botkin is a well-known local speaker and mentor to financial professionals nationwide.

LoJacks Corp. has awarded officer Steve Reardon and investigator Bill Chamberlain, both of the California Highway Patrol, with the 2003 IAATI/LoJack Award. Reardon and Chamberlain were involved in the investigation and arrest of individuals involved in a combined auto-theft/marijuana-farm ring.

Susan Lipsmeyer has been named Grossmont College’s “innovator of the year.” Lipsmeyer set up a program of electronic fund transfers to distribute financial aid to students.

Graham Downes Architecture Inc. has hired Karyn Rovner and X. Alexander Van Osten. Rovner was previously an interior designer with Carrier Johnson. Van Osten is a junior designer/draftsman.

Larry Rosipajla has been appointed forensic services director for Jefferson Wells International. He has been in accounting and tax management for 14 years.

Larry Nuffer has launched Lawrence/Nuffer Communications Consultancy. Nuffer spent the last four years as director of communications at Children’s Hospital. Before that, he spent 20 years at Nuffer, Smith, Tucker inc.

Barney & Barney has named Hal Dunning and Patrick Hanson as principals. Dunning has been with Barney & Barney since 2001, when he was hired as CFO. Hanson has more than 16 years experience in the insurance industry.

Scott Wang has been promoted to Asia desk manager at the San Diego World Trade Center. Wang has managed the center’s “Export to Asia” program for the past year.

Senior Community Centers has hired Leslie Vitzthum as v.p. of development. Vitzthum has more than 25 years of sales, marketing and nonprofit development experience including director of marketing for Luth Research and the Muscular Duystrophy Association of San Diego.

O’Connor Construction Management Inc. has hired Ed Swift as construction manager. Swift has 15 years of experience. John Wayne Heusner has joined O’Connor as a senior cost estimator. Heusner was the 2001-2002 “Estimator of the Year,” for the American Society of Professional Estimators.
