With the completion of Petco Park, hundreds of contractors and subcontractors are packing up their gear and making a final sweep of the digs to ensure it’s ready to host the Padres and a sold-out crowd on opening day.

Building the $294 million, 18-acre ballpark and Park at the Park was a joint venture by Clark Construction, Douglas E. Barnhart and Roel Construction Co. It took about 1.5 million square feet of drywall and more than 150 square feet of sandstone tiles to create the new center of Downtown.

More than 10,000 engraved bricks have been installed in Palm Court Plaza during the last month, among them are 2,082 hardhat bricks honoring construction workers who have left their mark on the project.
