Marye Anne Fox, UCSD chancellor

San Diego’s bioscience industry is facing a great opportunity with the passage of Proposition 71, a $3 billion California investment into stem cell research. Now comes the tricky part, deciding where those dollars will be invested. In San Diego, new UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox already has played a key role by appointing Dr. Edward Holmes, vice chancellor of health sciences and dean of the School of Medicine at UCSD, to the Independent Citizens Oversight Commission that will govern the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine in stem cell research.

“UCSD and San Diego share three pillars of strength — a culture of innovation, an enviable interdisciplinary track record and vast international opportunities,” Fox says. “I want to work with our partners to build on those strengths and ensure a radiant future for our campus and our region.”
