Good For Your Heart Events



Scripps Center For Integrative Medicine celebrates heart month with a free six-week health lecture series from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 3.

Discovering Medical Science, a mini-medical school lecture series created for people of all backgrounds and ages with a strong interest in learning more about medicine and health, will be led by Dr. Erminia M. Guarneri, founder and medical director of Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine. This series offers a variety of health topics presented by leading Scripps physicians.

All classes meet at the Schaetzel Center, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, 9890 Genesee Ave., La Jolla.

  • Feb. 3, Dr. Erminia M. Guarneri, “Detecting the Undetected: Frontiers in Heart Disease Prevention.”

  • Feb. 10, Sanna Ehdin, “Self-Healing Human: Tools to Harness our Natural Self-Healing Power.”

  • Feb. 17, Dr. Steven G. Pratt, “Super Foods: Nutrition for Health.”

  • Feb. 24, Dr. Robert A. Bonakdar, “Vitamins and Herbal Supplements: What to Take, What to Avoid.”

  • March 2, Dr. Steven J. Poceta, “Sleep, Insomnia and Understanding Body Rhythms.”

  • March 9, Dr. Jonathan S. Fisher, “Diabetes, The Growing Epidemic:Prevention and New Treatment Options.”

  • Sharp Grossmont Hospital and The American Heart Association will provide Women in Health, a six-part lecture and luncheon series beginning at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 19. For registration call 1-800-827-4277 or visit www.sharp.com.

  • Sharp Grossmont Hospital and Procter & Gamble will offer free osteoporosis screenings and a lecture from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 13 at the Sharp Grossmont Hospital Women’s Center.

Heart Month at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center

“Meet the Cardiologist”
A board-certified cardiologist and member of the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center physician staff will lead an informal discussion on heart matters from noon to 1 p.m. Feb. 12. A light “heart-healthy” lunch will be served. Call (800) 827-4277 to register.

“I Think I’m Having a Heart Attack”
A board-certified cardiologist and member of the Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center physician staff will talk from 9:30-11 a.m. Feb. 19 about the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and discuss medical and surgical procedures as well as rehabilitation options. Call (800) 827-4277 to register.

Cardiac Risk Assessment Screening
Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Team will screen and discuss cardiac risk factors from 9-11 a.m. Feb. 27. Call (800) 827-4277 to register.
