The South Metro Career Center, a joint effort by the San Diego Workforce Partnership and San Diego City Councilman Charles Lewis, has opened at 4389 Imperial Ave.
“The new South Metro Career Center is a direct response to the growing demand for workforce development in southeastern San Diego,” says Larry Fitch, Workforce Partnership president and CEO. “We are grateful to Councilman Lewis and former Councilman George Stevens for their commitment to the program and we are looking forward to serving the communities in their district.”
The SMCC staff was operating out of temporary space in the Employment Development Department’s office, where the staff grew from three to 25 people and the center proved itself invaluable to the southeastern San Diego community.
The first South Metro Career Center opened in 1994 at the insistence of Stevens. When Lewis was elected to the Fourth District seat in November 2002, he made getting the new center completed a priority.
