Deferred = Contributions to employee benefit plans and deferred compensation.

Expense = Expense account and other allowances.

***The term “compensation” is used when figures are taken from IRS Form 990s, and includes salaries and bonuses. The terms “salary” and “bonus” are used when data was gathered verbally.

*Data is for each organization’s fiscal year. Many fiscal years do not coincide with calendar years. Many Form 990s have not yet been filed for 2003 data.

*Compensation data was also requested from the American Heart Association, San Diego Division and the American Cancer Society, San Diego County chapter, but each files financial data nationally or regionally and does not release local figures.

*Compensation data was also requested from the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, which didn’t return phone calls. The IRS had no data on the group.
