More Than 500 Expected
For Workforce Summit

Larry Fitch

More than 500 business, government and community leaders are expected to attend San Diego Workforce Partnership’s 2004 Workforce Summit on May 5 at the Hilton San Diego Resort. The half-day event is a forum for regional business strategies and workforce solutions, covering timely issues such as national jobless recovery and global workforce outsourcing.

San Diego, with its declining unemployment rate and advancing technology market, is looked to as a leader in the nation’s economic recovery, but also as a target for cities such as Phoenix, wooing business away from Southern California with tax incentives.

“San Diego has enjoyed a steady economic recovery, with continued job growth in biotechnology and defense,” says Larry Fitch, Workforce Partnership president and CEO. “As leaders outside of the state develop their own regional economic strategies, the 2004 Workforce Summit will help San Diego stay competitive.”

Dubbed “Back2Work America: Working Through the Jobless Recovery,” the summit will discuss the interdependence of national and local matters, as well as the singular issues that affect San Diego and the state.

Area business leaders will design the panel discussions and breakout sessions that make up the core of the day’s activities. The event will wrap up with a keynote debate between distinguished speakers who will offer differing perspectives on the economy and jobless recovery. Specific breakout session topics and keynote speakers will be announced in mid-March.
