An old favorite has returned. Cilantro’s By The Sea opened in mid-February at The Lumberyard in Encinitas. This updated version of the Del Mar Cilantro’s original is owned by the former husband-and-wife team of Wendy Evarts and Brad Evarts, who were the original owners, and John Andre, managing partner. Cilantro’s By The Sea took over the short-lived Jim Kelly Steak House location (and, more notably, the previous Twins space). Veering a bit from the original Southwest theme, the owners describe the food as “Pacific Coastal Cuisine” with Mexican, Southwest, Cuban, Spanish and Pacific Rim influence. Don’t worry, some of your old favorites, like the housemade tamales and smoked duck salad, are making guest appearances on the new menu. Cilantro’s By The Sea is open every day except Monday and offers a nightly happy hour with half-price appetizers and drink specials from 4-7 p.m.
