Whether for an intimate affair or a big bash, it’s time to make plans and secure reservations for the company holiday party.
For something unique, Hornblower Cruises may be a perfect option, from a two-hour lunch cruise to a three-hour dinner cruise for a party of two to 500. The dinner cruise, starting at $69 per person, includes a cash bar, two drink tickets per guest, a salad, entrée and dessert. The Silver Bells Luncheon Cruise starts at $49 per person and includes a soda and juice bar, an entrée and dessert.
For a view of the sunset choose the two-hour Blue Christmas Cocktail Cruise, which has a hosted wine and beer bar and hors d’oeuvres such as “Brie en Croute with Pippin Apple.” Prices start at $54 per person with a 30-person minimum.
“Hornblower is a really memorable way to celebrate with friends and co-workers,” says Kathryn Wells, director of sales for Hornblower. “It is a very unique holiday option and offers your guests a chance to set-out in the harbor, on the water, and enjoy what San Diego is all about.”

For lively entertainment along with a good meal, Café Sevilla is a good choice, offering a menu that blends California fusion and traditional Spanish food. Enjoy the dinner flamenco or tango show, starting at $39.50 per person. For large parties a special menu and discounted pricing is available. In addition, the entire restaurant is available to rent out, but some weekend evenings already are booked.
For a large gathering, the Hyatt Regency La Jolla brings to the mix its expertise as one of the region’s top spots for corporate gatherings. The Michael Graves-designed hotel can accommodate an office party for groups up to 1,600.
For unique cuisine at a reasonable price, check out Bandar, a Persian restaurant with more than 36 dishes. Entrées start at $8 for lunch and $14 for dinner. Bandar also has a private room for up to 70 people and can arrange a set menu. “We have very healthy food and a nice ambiance,” says Behrooz Farahani, owner of Bandar, “great for holiday dining.”
Smaller, upscale holiday business gatherings may work well at Blue Point Coastal Cuisine. This restaurant in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter offers some of the region’s best seafood dishes, including Pan Seared Scallops and Caramelized Salmon. And when the party’s over, the fun can continue in the Gaslamp.

For a sumptuous in-office gathering, consider Mobile Waiter. Operating since 1991, the catering service’s choices come from the menus of 250 local restaurants. An hour’s notice for small groups and 24-hour notice for large parties is sufficient.
Entertainment can perk up a slow party and improve a good one. Companies like Entertainment Solutions West Inc. www.entsolw.com can offer advice on fun options such as carolers or caricaturists.
Another catering option for the in-office holiday party is Daphne’s Greek Café, with 10 restaurants in San Diego County. The sampler tray has enough appetizers for 25 people and includes familiar Greek items such as hummus, dolmas and kabobs.
