Rev. Arvid Straube is the new lead minister at the First Unitarian Church of San Diego, and Rev. Julie Kain is minister. Straube was at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Durham, N.C., for the past 21 years. Kain was minister of Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains in Grass Valley, Calif. They are replacing Revs. Carolyn and Thomas Owen-Towle, who retired after 24 years in San Diego.

Marlon Shirley, the lone paralympic resident athlete from the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center, won three Olympic medals in Athens. He won first in the 100m race, second in the 200m and third in long jump. He was the 2003 winner of the ESPY award for Best Disabled Athlete.
