The man who brought more classical music to more ears and hearts in San Diego and Baja California than anyone else, Victor Diaz died late last month at his home in Bonita. He was 62.
Diaz, who with his wife Martha established Califormula Broadcasting in Chula Vista, operated XLNC1 at 90.7 FM and xlnc1.org as commercial-free non-profit broadcasts providing classical music 24 hours a day locally, but also globally online. Fans and frequent listeners have responded from around the world.
“Victor Diaz’s contribution to classical music education in San Diego and Tijuana is unrivaled,” says Nancy Laturno, executive director of Mainly Mozart.
Ivan Morales, an executive with Warner Music Latina, says Diaz was “a man with a passion for music and photography who leaves a huge legacy.” An accomplished photographer who explored new techniques of dye transfer printing, Diaz established the International Institute of Photographic Arts in Chula Vista. Some of his photography can be seen at iipa.org. Additional information is available at victormdiaz.com and a story about Diaz is available at sandiegometro.com.
Diaz is survived by his wife Martha, son Alex and daughter Jessica.
