Where A Little Rock And Starbucks
Liquor Go Nicely With Fine Art

The crowd mingles during a TNT gathering hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art Downtown.

Art, sophistication and a trendy crowd join at the TNT gatherings hosted by the Museum of Contemporary Art Downtown. Short for “Thursday Night Thing,” the mixers are held at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month and include live music, drinks, dancing and plenty of art. Guests stroll around, some sipping Starbucks Liquor, while alternating their attention between the art on the walls and the people passing by. On Kettner Boulevard, lights of Downtown with the occasional passing train or trolley provide the backdrop for the evening.

“It is exciting. There are lots of young professionals and great music,” says Liz Bercik, 26, who went to her first TNT in March and plans to become a regular. “I went with some of my girlfriends. We had wanted to go for a while and check it out. It’s nice to do something cultural every once in a while.”

Set for April 7, the next TNT celebrates the opening of “Cerca Series” by John Sonsini. The artist will be in the galleries at the beginning of the night for a question and answer session. Later, Orange County-based Satisfaction and San Diego’s Reeve Oliver will rock the outdoor plaza. A $3 donation is requested. More is at mcasd.org.
