Linda Stewart

Linda Stewart, a 16-year veteran of the home-building industry, was promoted to sales manager for the Urban Division of Barratt American. Stewart has worked for several large home builders in the country, and before her promotion was site sales manager for Barratt’s Metrome mid-rise in Downtown’s East Village.

John Grissom has joined the law firm of Higgs, Fletcher & Mack after seven years with Dostart, Clapp & Coveney. His focus is on business and corporate transactional matters and clients in the nonprofit sector, and he will join the firm’s tax practice group and the corporate and securities practice group.

Christena Ferran was appointed by Schubach Aviation as director of sales and marketing. Ferran was the founder of HeartVision Enterprises, a company devoted to the empowerment of children. She has developed seminars and spoken widely.

San Diego National Bank hired William T. Roche III as v.p./controller of the accounting department. Roche will structure and manage all accounting operations for the county’s network of 19 branches. Roche has worked in the financial services industry for more than 25 years. He is a CPA who was the controller at 1st Pacific Bank and as the CFO of First International Bank.

Continuing the expansion of its Lindbergh Field based charter operation, Jimsair Charter added pilots Ed Bratrud, Syung Ho Lee and Matt Gammond to its roster. Bratrud will fly the Hawker 700 jet while Lee and Gammond will be assigned to the King Air fleet.

Fashion Valley hired Masa Liles as director of mall marketing. Liles has more than 20 years of marketing experience, having directed marketing programs for more than 30 shopping centers around the country. She has served as executive director of retail client relations and international development for AMC.

Bailey Gardiner Inc. named Allen Jones as v.p. of the advertising department. Jones has more than 15 years of experience in advertising and marketing. Prior to joining Bailey Gardiner, Jones supervised operation of accounts for Babcock & Jenkins in Portland.

Vicki Mullins was named senior v.p. and CFO of Newland Communities. Mullins has more than 20 years of experience in real estate development and management, most recently as COO and CFO at Prometheus Real Estate Group in Redwood City. Prior to that, she was with The Irvine Co.

Craig A. Nelson was named executive v.p. of First National’s Community Banking Group managing the bank’s 13 commercial offices in San Diego. A San Diegan for 25 years, Nelson sits on the boards of the San Diego State Athletic Foundation, American Lung Association and is president of the MIT Enterprise Forum.

California State University at San Marcos Extended Studies appointed Debi Frumkin as program coordinator for the meeting and event planning certificate program. She has nearly 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including working at restaurants, a theme park and a visitors bureau. William A. Mullins joined NextLevel Internet as senior account executive. Prior to joining NextLevel Internet, Mullins was self-employed as a high technology marketing and sales consultant. Previously, he was g.m. of MatchWare Inc., where he directed sales, marketing and operations for the company.

Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, international law firm, appointed William Sullivan as chair of the San Diego office. Sullivan also chairs the Paul Hastings national securities litigation practice group.

Ron Johnson, Don Williams and Marc Farrar were appointed to executive management positions with Time Warner Cable’s San Diego division. Johnson is v.p. of technical services and manager of employee teams who install and service customer connections. He has been in cable work for 25 years. Williams is v.p. of operations support and manages the teams who support front-line employees. Williams joined the company in 2002. Prior to that he was the technical operations manager for Daniels Cablevision Inc. of Carlsbad. Farrar joined the division in November 2004 as v.p. of public affairs.

Sycuan Resort and Casino appointed Anita Bye as community development manager. She has more than 20 years of community relations experience . Prior to joining Sycuan, she was the public relations manager for Nieman Marcus in San Diego.

Latino Sports Marketing hired Danny Strickland as senior v.p. and Daniela Solorzano as business development coordinator. Strickland has experience implementing Hispanic programs for organizations including the U.S. Army. He was director of operations for Cartel Impacto. Solorzano’s previous experience includes coordinating and planning fund-raising campaigns for nonprofit organizations.

Preventsys Inc. named Scott Smull as CFO. Smull has nearly 30 years of finance experience and experience leading growing software companies. Most recently, he was CFO at DispenseSource, and before that he served as CFO at PurePulse Technologies, Linkabit Wireless, and ComStream Corp.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car promoted three branch managers to area managers overseeing more than a dozen offices in San Diego County. Jason Polk supervises 15 employees and four offices serving Escondido, Valley Center and Rancho Bernardo. Spencer Van Linge is responsible for 20 employees and six offices serving Del Mar, Encinitas and the area surrounding Miramar Marine Corps Air Station. David Walters manages 30 employees and five branches in Pacific Beach and Mission Valley and is based out of the Pacific Beach Enterprise office.

California Transportation Ventures Inc., the private company financing and developing State Route 125 toll road in the South County, hired Gary Thompson as roadway operations manager and Paul Adams, manager of sales and customer operations. Thompson’s experience with toll roads spans more than 12 years in Orange County. Adams has more than 14 years of senior management experience in customer service centers.

Shawn Matheson was appointed health center administrator for GlenView Assisted Living and GlenBrook Skilled Nursing in Carlsbad, a health center for the public and for residents of La Costa Glen Carlsbad, a continuing care community. Matheson previously managed a county-owned nursing facility in Utah.

Carmen M. Vazquez will become USD’s next v.p. for student affairs Aug. 1. Vazquez now is the assistant vice chancellor for student life at the UCSD. Vazquez has more than 25 years of experience as a student affairs officer, beginning at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where she served in various positions. Her appointment fills a vacancy left by Robert Pastoor.

Commercial real estate investment firm, Westcore Properties appointed Donald H. Ankeny president and CEO. Prior to his appointment, Ankeny was managing partner with Riverside Capital Partners. Francesca Busalacchi was hired as asset manager of industrial and retail real estate throughout California and the western United States. Busalacchi previously worked at Meissner Jacquet in San Diego where she managed office and retail properties. Marc Brutten, Westcore Properties’ founder, was named chairman of Westcore Properties and will continue to work closely with other officers.

Dale L. Rieger was named Of Counsel to the San Diego office of Jones Day, where he will advise pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry clients within the firm’s intellectual property practice. Rieger was with the San Diego office of Fish & Richardson. Rieger’s practice focuses on patent matters in biotechnology, chemistry, pharmaceuticals, bioinformatics, proteomics and medical devices.

Don Kerl, with more than 25 years of experience in accounting, joined N.N. Jaeschke Inc., a property management firm for homeowner associations, as v.p. of accounting. Kerl spent the past nine years as CFO of a commercial real estate firm specializing in executive office suites. He will oversee the company’s 15 accounting department employees.

Penny Allen joined BPA Architecture Planning Interiors as marketing administrator. Allen will assist with strategic marketing planning, public relations, proposal and contract generation, recruiting and office management. She has eight years of marketing experience.

Maya Ellman was hired by San Diego’s Epiphany Marketing. Prior to joining Epiphany, Ellman was the marketing coordinator at San Diego Metropolitan magazine, where she worked with the advertising, editorial and graphic design departments.

Foley & Lardner named Celia A. Brewer to the firm’s San Diego office in the health law department and real estate practice group. Brewer has experience representing approving agencies in complex land use matters involving zoning, subdivision and environmental issues. She was the city attorney for Solana Beach. Brewer recently received the Local Government Attorney of the Year Award for 2004-05 from the San Diego County City Attorney’s Association.

Sundt Construction Inc. employees David Jesme, John Messick and Ryan Nessen received the professional designation of Certified Professional Constructor by the American Institute of Constructors and a coalition of professional construction associations. Jesme, a project director, has been in the construction industry for 22 years. Messick, recently promoted to project director, has been in construction for 18 years and is also LEED certified. Nessen, a LEED certified project manager for Sundt’s Federal Division, has been in the construction industry for 10 years.

Michael R. Cowan joined Gillespie Design Group Inc., as a landscape designer. He was with a design/build construction firm in Seattle, where he was a landscape construction specialist.

The Ecke Ranch promoted three employees. Ricardo Campos heads the sales department as director. He has been with the ranch for 13 years, the last seven as g.m. of Ecke’s off-shore Guatemala production operation. Roger Kehoe, with the company for eight years, was named technical sales manager. Abdel Hassan was promoted to operations manager. For the past six-plus years, Hassan was a grower at the ranch, directly responsible for its poinsettia blooming program.

Mazur joins as a job captain. Previously he was with Kullman Industries. Hotz is marketing coordinator. She was marketing manager for Martin & Ziemniak Civil Engineering.

Cymer Inc., supplier of deep ultraviolet light sources used in semiconductor manufacturing, named Daniel Dunn as v.p. of customer satisfaction. He has more than two decades of experience in the semiconductor industry. Formerly at Novellus Systems, he held several senior management level positions.

Point Loma Nazarene University named Joe Watkins to the newly created position of v.p. for community development. Watkins has been associate v.p. for community development for two years, dividing his responsibilities between community development and overseeing the office of University Advancement. Watkins is an alumnus of PLNU (’76) cut here if mover only where he received his undergraduate degree in theology and his master’s of ministry degree. He returned to PLNU in 2001 after pastoring the First Church of the Nazarene in Sierra Vista, Ariz., for 12 years. His Ph.D. in higher education administration is from the University of Arizona. He and his wife, Joan, live in Point Loma and have three children.

The Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter appointed Kimberly McFadden and Brandi Baker as sales managers. With nearly 16 years of experience in hospitality sales, McFadden joins the company from her previous position as corporate sales manager for Sunstone Hotels Investors. Early in her career, McFadden helped open the Rio Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. She recently left the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City.

Artes Medical Inc., a pharmaceutical and medical device company, appointed Larry J. Braga as v.p., manufacturing. He joined Artes in June 2004 and most recently was senior director of collagen manufacturing where he led the construction and validation efforts for Artes’ current GMP manufacturing facility.

Jim Wiese was promoted to president of Mayer Roofing Inc. in Escondido to free founders David Archer and Paul Mayer to explore other business opportunities. Wiese has been with the company since 2004. Other promotions were Martin Stout to v.p. of sales and estimating, and Mark McMahon, v.p. of purchasing.

Darrell Watkins, a senior development officer with Neighborhood House Association, was named interim g.m. of the San Diego Food Bank, replacing Peter Callstrom, who resigned to take a position as CEO of Kids Korps USA. Watkins was a long time senior executive of the local Boy Scout Council before joining NHA in April 2002. He has led several successful fund-raising efforts for the Food Bank and NHA.
