Craig Shute

Craig Shute joined the San Diego office of CB Richard Ellis as managing director. He joined the company in 1998 and became manager of the South Australia office. He has 12 years of experience in commercial real estate.

Ramona Cyr joined Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps LLP as director of business development and marketing. She formerly worked for 15 years at the San Diego Union-Tribune as group research manager.

Bill Ostrem, president and CEO of The EastLake Co., was named chair of the residential real estate committee at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego. Joe Anfuso, chair of Shea Homes San Diego, was chosen vice chair. Stepping down is Andrew Murphy, president of Fieldstone Communities, who has been chair for three years. He will remain on the committee, which has 26 industry professionals.

Louise Winders replaces Rosina Baur as manager of Coldwell Banker’s offices in Rancho Santa Fe and Fairbanks Ranch. Winders moved from managing the company’s Carlsbad office. Baur will take a senior branch management position within the company assisting Southern California branch managers. Veronica “Roni” Telmosse, formerly assistant manager of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Del Mar, was named manager of the company’s office in Carlsbad. Telmosse is 2005 president of the San Diego Association of Realtors.

Thomas L. Brown

Thomas L. Brown, a general engineering contractor who founded Sierra Pacific West Inc. in Vista, is chair of the San Diego Family Justice Center Foundation board for 2005. Also elected were Denise Bowman, secretary; Sandra Burr, vice chair; Carol Clark, Harold B. Dokmo Jr., Mary England, Casey Gwinn, Sook Hansen, Mark Hopper, Mara Lettau, Mike Scogin, Sharon Smith, Gael Strack and Martin Waldinger.

Jimsair Aviation Services Inc. hired Lee Burdick to serve as general counsel assisting with government affairs.

Eric Alan Isaacson, with the law firm of Lerach Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins, was chosen president of the San Diego Foundation for Change, which promotes economic justice and social equality in the San Diego-Tijuana region.

Paul S. Metsch was elected managing partner of San Diego-headquartered Solomon Ward Seidenwurm & Smith. Metsch has been with the company since 1994. He began his career at Selzer Caplan McMahon Vitek.

Mike Helton was hired by the Florida firm Opus West Corp. as director to oversee construction in the San Diego area. He has 14 years of experience in design and construction.

Roger D. Brown joined the San Diego law firm of Osborne & Nesbitt, whose practice focuses on insurance and litigation on behalf of policy holders. Brown has 10 years of experience, first with Adams, Duque & Hazeltine and then with Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps.

John H. Stephens joined Sullivan Wertz McDade & Wallace. A litigation, real estate and personal injury lawyer, Stephens has been practicing for 27 years. He formerly worked for the law firm of Robbins & Keehn for 17 years.

The Port of San Diego named Janice Erickson director of financial services. She has served for 12 years as deputy treasurer. Before working for the Port, she was assigned to the Oceanside city budget team and treasurer’s office.

Sandra J. Morris of San Diego was named Family Law Person of the Year by the Southern California chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has practiced, taught and written on family law for more than 30 years and is past national president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Raphael Bernal is new executive director of North County Community Services. He was selected from nearly 200 original applicants and 10 finalists in a nationwide search. He will oversee five child development centers and a food bank that distributes to more than 60 agencies and programs.

Patricia J. Lane, office administrator at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, was elected president of the San Diego chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators. Also elected were Linda E. D. R. Horton appointed Ted Phillips, who has been in the home building industry for more than 20 years, as v.p. of customer service. Horton also hired Dan C. Matthews as branch manager of DHI Mortgage, Horton’s San Diego mortgage provider; and Gregg Cole as v.p. of operations.

Mack Langston and Cathryn Low, San Diego apartment sales specialists, joined Burnham Real Estate * Oncor International. They have worked together as a team for five years and frequently are guest speakers at realty events.

Patricia Lynn Groff, director of administration for Butz Dunn DeSantis & Bingham took the post of at large director for two regions of the Association of Legal Administrators. Those regions include Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Arizona, California, Nevada and New Zealand.

Michelle Graham joined the private wealth services practice at Holland & Knight. She is senior counsel at the firm’s Rancho Santa Fe office. She was a senior associate at Baker & McKenzie for eight years.

Pacific Cornerstone Architects promoted Kevin Perry to partner. Perry has worked as a project architect with the company since 1999 and has been in the industry for nearly 20 years.

Brian Grayek was named chief technology officer of Preventsys Inc., a Carlsbad technology security management company. Gayek has more than 25 years of network security experience, most recently as a technology strategist and principal security consultant at Computer Associates.

The California Landscape Contractors Association, San Diego chapter, elected Mark Sterk president. Sterk is president and CEO of Vista-based Columbine Landscape Co. He joined the CLCA San Diego Chapter in 1997 and has been on the board since 2000.

A newly endowed Sheryl and Harvey White Chair in Management Leadership at The Rady School at UCSD, the will be held by Professor Vish Krishman, formerly at the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. The chair was funded by a $500,000 gift from Sheryl and Harvey White of Del Mar. White is a co-founder of Qualcomm Inc., and retired chairman and CEO of Leap Wireless International.

Another endowed chair at UCSD, the Atkinson/Epstein Chair in Leadership Management, has not yet been filled. It is funded by $500,000 gifts from Richard and Rita Atkinson and Daniel and Phyllis Epstein of La Jolla. Atkinson was president of the UC system from 1995 to 2003, and chancellor of UCSD from 1980 to 1995. Epstein is founder and CEO of ConAm Management Corp. in San Diego.

Donald Reilly was awarded the Certified Retirement Financial Advisor designation from the Society of Certified Retirement Financial Advisors. The designation is earned after a classroom course and a four-hour exam.

His more than 30 years in management includes seven years in Escondido’s Chamber of Commerce and nine years as executive manager of the La Jolla Town Council. And, yes, he has rescued pets of his own, a cat, and a Labrador Retriever named Buddy.

Lockton Insurance Brokers Inc. appointed Jay Jordan and Robyn Piper as vps. in the company’s benefits devision. Jordan has been in the business for 20 years. Piper formerly was v.p. of benefits at Willis Insurance Services of California Inc.

Ron Cramer joined Sakata Seed America as director of flower sales after a 30-year career with the Paul Ecke Ranch. Newly hired by Ecke Ranch is Russ Gillum. He fills a newly created position as product development integration manager. His 35 years of experience includes serving as associate director of flower sales and marketing for Sakata Seed. Ecke Ranch and Sakata Seed are partners in the international horticulture industry.

Wicker advises entrepreneurs, startup ventures and investors in the medical and life science industries. Handy specializes in drafting and negotiating agreements in life science technologies.

Women Impacting Public Policy appointed Claudia Laird as a national partner, representing its interests in legislative and policy processes. Laird is v.p. of Ability Center, a provider of products and services for the disabled, and was appointed to the National Women’s Business Council of the SBA.

Foley and Lardner hired Michael Hay as an associate in its intellectual property practice group. Previously Hay practiced intellectual property law at Lundeen and Dickinson in Houston. Before becoming an attorney, he was a polymer chemist and research scientist.

Steven Heredia was hired by Bilbro Construction Co. as superintendent. He has 20 years of experience, most recently as as a construction superintendent for Eleven Western Builders.

Heller Ehrman added to its San Diego staff: shareholder Colbern Stuart; associates Matt Lapple and Nicole Cunningham; and senior patent specialists Robert Palmer and Laura Collins. Also hired was John Benassi, Kurt Kjelland and Jessica Wolf as litigation shareholders. With these eight additions, Heller Ehrman’s San Diego office is home to 56 attorneys and professionals.

Rancho Financial Mortgage Center hired Taylor Stevens as COO. She was most recently president/COO of General Mortgage Co. and has been in the California mortgage industry for 19 years. Also recently hired was Robert Geiler, a 20-year industry professional, as a senior loan officer. He spent the past eight years at General Mortgage.

Dennis Walters joined Gafcon as director of operations. He has 25 years of construction industry experience, most recently with Douglas E. Barnhart Inc. Before that he was with Nielsen Dillingham Builders Inc.

The Hilton San Diego Gaslamp Quarter named James Gross as g.m. and Paul Ouellette as director of sales. Gross has been in the hospitality industry for more than 20 years, most recently as g.m. of the Renaissance Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Ouellette, a 25-year veteran of hotel work, most recently was director of sales and marketing at Hilton San Diego Mission Valley.

Phil Gibbs, formerly a financial consultant at Smith Barney, was appointed manager at the Escondido branch of San Diego National Bank. He is replacing Linda Goycochea, who will move to the new Mira Mesa branch scheduled to open this year.

Anne M. Loomis, with more than 20 years of experience, was named executive v.p. and director of client services at Torre Lazur McCann West. For the past dozen years she was with Pacific Communications of Costa Mesa.

Goal Financial LLC, an education finance company, appointed Tim Case as COO. Case is a co-founder of Goal Financial and former v.p. of sales and operations. He has been involved in sales and management for more than 20 years.

The International Aloe Science Council appointed Phil Harvey to its board. Harvey is the chief science officer for Life Force International, a liquid nutritional supplement company, and he has taught at the Southern California University of Health Sciences for more than a decade.

The San Diego Soroptomists awarded Rebecca Derrough, a senior at La Jolla Country Day School, with the Violet Richardson Award for 14- to 17-year-olds active in community service. She will receive a $500 scholarship and $250 for the charity of her choice.

New Way Landscape & Tree Services hired Julio Yslava, a certified landscape technician in maintenance and irrigation, as account manager in its Central San Diego Portfolio. He has 20 years of experience.
