Under Robert Horsman’s leadership, San Diego National Bank has become a company that has made an extraordinary commitment to the civic, cultural and philanthropic betterment of San Diego,” says Joan Dean, announcing the recipient of the 2005 Community Service Award of the San Diego chapter of the American Jewish Committee. San Diego National Bank opened in 1981 with a single branch Downtown and has grown to 19 branches countywide. Horsman was involved from the beginning, playing a big role in selling stock in the bank’s initial $9 million capitalization as senior vice president. He was named president in 1996 and in 2000 was given the additional responsibilities of CEO. The bank has grown assets to $2.2 billion. Its management, staff and board members contribute to more than 200 community organizations.
Padres broadcaster Jerry Coleman will be keynote speaker at the May 11 tribute. Charlotte Starck of KUSI-TV will be mistress of ceremonies. Honorary chairs are Iris and Matthew Strauss. Dean and Tad Parzen are event co-chairs working with a committee that includes Malin Burnham, Colette Carson Royston and Ivor Royston, Charles Feurzeig, Elaine and Murray Galinson, Jessie J. Knight Jr., Susan Mallory, Myrna and Jeff Marston and Cecil H. Steppe.
