Corporate Law

The challenge he sees for young
professionals is to be taken seriously

Jeff Baglio, 37, has represented some of the most prominent public companies in San Diego, from Invitrogen to Qualcomm. As a partner in the corporate and securities practice group of DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, Baglio often finds himself giving legal advice on multimillion-dollar deals to executives with a lot more gray hair.

The challenge for any young professional, he says, “is to be taken seriously. You overcome it by working really hard,” says Baglio, who made partner at 32.

Baglio has represented corporate clients in any number of scenarios. He’s a member of the San Diego Venture Group, the San Diego Telecom Council and the San Diego County Bar Association.

Pro bono projects aren’t easy for a transactional attorney to find, Baglio says. He worked with private local donors to raise $3.5 million for the renovation of the city-owned Torrey Pines South Course in anticipation of the 2008 U.S. Open Championship. He is the event’s director and general counsel.

Baglio also is on the board of the nonprofit Century Club of San Diego, which hosts the annual Buick Invitational golf tournament. Since 1968, the Century Club and its affiliated corporate title sponsors have reportedly donated more than $7 million to 80 local charities.

Baglio wants to help his law firm grow, in San Diego and beyond, and to help his clients achieve their corporate goals. “I’m probably most proud of the success I’ve had at this firm and in the business community, to have me working with some of the most important companies in this town and on some of the most sophisticated deals at a relatively early age.”

Baglio is an occasional golfer and an avid reader. He and his wife of seven years, Kim, are the parents of Greg, 2, and Nicole, 4.
