Welcome to the sixth annual 40 Under Forty special section, an effort designed to recognize the region’s young business and civic leaders. The diversity of those selected is striking and inspiring. So too were the applications of the many our independent judges said didn’t make the cut; law firm partners, accountants and elected officials among them. Many were on the bubble; we hope they try next year.
This year’s judges are Richard Cloward, manager of charter operations at Jimsair Charter; Louise Torio, executive director of Historic San Diego Marketing & Consulting; Judy Case DiPasquale, executive director of the YWCA of San Diego County; Joice Truban Curry, president of c3 Communications Inc.; and Brian Miller, owner of the Geppetto’s toy stores.
On the following pages are profiles of the honorees. You can meet and celebrate with them at noon on Sept. 16 during an uplifting luncheon program at the San Diego Convention Center. Along with good natured fun and a champagne start, you’ll dine on a starter antipasto plate with soprasetta, olive tapenade, roasted garlic, buffalo mozzarella, bruschetta, roasted peppers and grilled flat-breads; a main course featuring roasted and tea smoked chicken salad on baby spoon spinach with port soaked currants, dried pears, grilled asparagus, toasted hazelnuts and sliced egg with a raspberry champagne vinaigrette; and dessert of mascarpone crepe with scented rum and filled with pistachio praline and topped with an espresso crème anglaise.
Tempted? If you’re interested in supporting an honoree, tickets are $65; less for a table. The YWCA and its Becky’s House II are the beneficiaries. Call Cyndi Meeves at (619) 233-4060, Ext. 314, for the details. In the meantime, please read on.
