It’s Easy Being Green

Environmental concerns come
first for Charlotte Morrisette

< Eli Mansour | Chris Niemeyer >

Charlotte Morrisette’s real estate development career is going through the roof. Less than three years ago, she was hired as a development analyst with the J. Peter Block Cos. Now, at 26, she is the executive vice president of the company.

She was project manager for the company’s condominium conversion of the historic El Cortez. Currently, she is helping her company with two new residential proposals —128 units on Bankers Hill and another 156 units planned for Cortez Hill.

Morrisette brings her “green” ideals to the development world as an advocate of environmentally friendly practices and design functions. Among them: photovoltaics, recycled products and building solid waste disposal management into new projects. She also oversees the company’s affordable housing program. “I really hope that our development will serve as an example of how to provide affordable and market units in the same project,” she says.

She graduated magna cum laude from USD, earning a B.A. in international affairs, and is fluent in French and Spanish. Morrisette spent two summers studying in Guadalajara, Mexico. After college, she traveled to France and initiated a pilot English program for French kindergartens.

These days, when she’s not in the office, Morrisette is out in the community. She’s on the Centre City Advisory Committee and several other boards. She volunteers for the Sierra Club’s Inner-City Outings. And in her free time, she relaxes with tai chi and yoga. She’s also an avid rock climber. Not surprising for a woman with her sights set so high.
