Callaway Golf appointed George Fellows as president and CEO, and elected him as a director. William C. Baker, who has been interim CEO and chairman since August of 2004, will remain as a director. Fellows has had his own consulting business in New York since 2000, serving as a senior adviser to Investcorp and PMorgan Partners. Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Revlon Inc.

Sharp HealthCare named Melissa Hayden-Cook as president and CEO of Sharp Health Plan. Cook has more than 20 years of health care experience, including six years on Sharp HealthCare’s senior management team.

Russell Broadway was promoted to principal from senior manager in Ernst & Young’s tax practice. He is a 14-year veteran of the firm and has extensive knowledge of real estate-specific tax services.

San Diego attorney Larry L. Marshall joined the law firm of Sullivan Wertz McDade & Wallace as a partner. Marshall, known for his real estate expertise, will focus on eminent domain, real estate, redevelopment and governmental relations. He has 36 years of experience.

Vertical Village Realty named Tisha McMurry as managing broker. Her primary focus is the brokerage of residential condominiums Downtown. The office is in Treo at the corner of West B and Kettner Boulevard.

Attorneys Diane C. Fisher, Randal J. Lejuwaan, Justin B. White, and Kate H. Park have joined California-based Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps as associates in the firm’s San Diego office. Seasoned real estate attorney Helen O. Ghio has also joined the San Diego office to expand the breadth and scope of its real estate work. Fisher, a first-year associate, also joined the firm’s real estate practice group. Lejuwaan was with Donahue Gallagher Woods in Oakland, and White was previously an associate with Wingert Grebing Brubaker & Goodwin in San Diego. Park joins Luce Forward’s business practice group. Ghio has been practicing in real estate for the past five years.

Cory Brazas was been named senior v.p. and market manager of the San Diego Commercial Banking Center for Bank of the West, Downtown, She opened U.S. Bank’s San Diego commercial operation in 1999. Also joining the Commercial Banking Center are Kris Ilkov and Cyrus Vafi, both as v.p.s, Ilkov, with more than 11 years of commercial banking experience, and Vafi most recently with San Diego National Bank.

Barnhart Inc. promoted three to v.p. positions: Sumeet Gadi, Mike Barnum and Sean Hulen. Gadi has a nine-year tenure with Barnhart. Barnum joined Barnhart in 2002 and Hulen has been with the company for two years.

Ken Berger is the new president of the Thermo’s Process Instruments Division, which offers online measurement and analytical instruments and associated services to global manufacturers. Berger most recently served as president of Thermo Electron China.

CityMark Development hired Ted Kawai as v.p. of finance, and named Kiesha Harrison as new client services coordinator. Kawai has more than 15 years of experience. Harrison formerly held the same position with another home builder.

Southwest Community Bancorp, parent company of Southwest Community Bank, welcomed banking veteran Fred Baranowski as executive v.p. and San Diego regional manager. Baranowski has 26 years of local banking experience, and five years of executive leadership in the nonprofit sector. He served for three years as the president/CEO of United Way of San Diego County, he was president of the Downtown San Diego Partnership from 2000-2002.

Regents Bank hired Carlos Munoz as a credit analyst to work out of the bank’s La Jolla office. Previously, Munoz worked out of Union Bank of California’s Los Angeles office. Regents Bank also promoted veteran employee Dawn Stout from loan services manager to loan service manager/assistant v.p. Also hired at Regents was Brian Smith, senior v.p. He will work in North County, where Regents Bank plans to open its fourth branch by the end of this year.

CB Richard Ellis promoted Ron Bement from v.p. to first v.p. He joined the firm in 1995 as a sales associate. Prior to that, Bement leased and sold industrial real estate in Downtown and East County.

Margaret Oppliger joined Discovery Bank as v.p./relationship manager for major commercial loan customers. Her 20-plus years of experience include serving most recently at 1st Pacific Bank of California, where she was v.p. of commercial lending.

Laurie Axford, an attorney who specializes in patent prosecution and complex patent portfolio strategic management, joined the intellectual property group in the San Diego office of Gordon & Rees. She previously headed the San Diego office of Burns, Doane, Swecker & Mathis, which recently merged with Buchanan Ingersoll.

Charles Blottin

Ace Parking Management Inc. added three to its corporate headquarters in Downtown San Diego. They are CFO Charles Blottin, most recently CFO for Kelly Capital; Christopher Dale, director of communications and public relations, most recently with Wellspring International and replacing Chris Orlando; and Cynthia Heu, director of human resources, with more than 20 years of experience in employee relations. She most recently was HR director for Tenet Healthcare in Alvarado Hospital Medical Center.

La Jolla tax attorney Mitch Dubick was elected board chair for Senior Community Centers. Dubick, a partner with the law firm of Dysart & Dubick, will head the nonprofit organization’s board as it plans to open a second affordable housing project following the success of Potiker Family Senior Residence in Downtown.

Gary Borkowski was named v.p. of acquisitions by the California Division of Newland Communities, responsible for acquiring developable land and master-planned communities in Southern California. He was with Lakemont Properties Inc. in Palm Desert.

Susan Farrell

The USO Council of San Diego selected Susan Farrell to succeed Regan Wright as president/CEO of the San Diego USO. Farrell is experienced in public relations, television news production, reporting and as a news anchor for three television stations. Her most recent position was as director of pr for San Diego Opera.

The Alzheimer’s Association, San Diego chapter, named Merle Brodie as president and CEO. Brodie has served on the Alzheimer’s board for five years. Prior to her appointment, Brodie held executive positions with the Jewish Community Foundation, the San Diego Foundation, Palomar Pomerado Health Foundation and Scripps Foundation for Medicine and Science for 13 years.

Union Bank of California promoted former senior v.p. Michael Yeatts to executive v.p. in its real estate deposits and financial institutions division, part of the bank’s commercial deposits and treasury management group.

Chris Cole joined GVA IPC as an associate. He previously served two years as an associate, then left to pursue opportunities in the residential mortgage field. In his position now, Cole is charged with overseeing the sale and leasing of office and industrial properties in the Miramar and Sorrento Mesa areas of San Diego.

Stefan Prvanov, a partner, and Rick Brooks, financial planner, with Blankinship & Foster, a Del Mar family wealth advisory firm, were named to professional association boards. Prvanov is on the board of the West Region of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors, and Brooks was elected first v.p. and program chair of the CFA Society of San Diego. He joined Blankinship & Foster in 2004.

VR Business Brokers’ San Diego office hired Jose Carlos Bravo as a senior associate. Bravo has more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant and retail industries. He founded his own chain of Mexican restaurants in San Diego, and is the current owner of Bravo’s in Ocean Beach, a business run by its employees.

Patricia Oakes Melvin was named CEO of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce. Melvin, who owns a marketing, human resources, and corporate communications consulting firm in Palm Desert, served as president/CEO of the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership in Palm Desert (2003-2004), and prior to that as executive director/CEO of the Valley Economic Development Corporation in Hemet. Melvin succeeds Juanita Hayes, who resigned in May 2005 after a three-year tenure as the Chamber’s CEO.

Dana G. Mead Jr., a partner with Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, was elected to the board of California Healthcare Institute, a nonprofit public policy research organization. Mead joined KPCB as partner and member of the firm’s life sciences team in May.

Jonathan Heller, who has 18 years of experience as a journalist, was named director of public relations at Southwest Strategies. Heller covered Downtown for the San Diego Union-Tribune for the five years, and before that was an editor and reporter for daily newspapers in three states. In 1999, he was one of six journalists awarded a Kiplinger Foundation Fellowship, which allowed him to spend a year studying and writing about federal aging policy at Ohio State University.

Entravision Communications Corp. promoted Robert Moutal to g.m. of XHAS-TV Channel 33, the Telemundo affiliate serving San Diego and Tijuana. He will be based in San Diego. With more than 17 years of broadcast and production experience, Moutal most recently was production manager of XHAS-TV Channel 33 Telemundo.

Most recently Gaucher was executive director of the Sledgehammer Theatre, and he had a term as general manager for the San Diego Performing Arts League. He replaces George Lugg, named to the post and then, for personal reasons, unable unable to accept it.

Sycuan Resort named Sheri Hayes as lead instructor for The School of Golf Exclusively for Women. She has more than 23 years of teaching experience. Hayes is a PGA and LPGA Class A, professional lead instructor. Prior to joining Sycuan, Hayes Hayes served as the LPGA Western Section v.p. for four years and the LPGA national evaluator for eight years.

Carl R. Poirot, the former executive director of the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, was honored by both the American Bar Association and the State Bar of California for his contributions to promoting and providing pro bono legal services to indigent and needy San Diegans. Poirot and the volunteer program were recognized by the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution, with the Lawyer as Problem Solver Award at the organization’s 2005 annual meeting in Chicago.

Mayer Roofing Inc. named Rick Hart director of its quality assurance department. Hart, a 10-year employee with the firm, will lead a team of veteran roofers, assisted by longtime Mayer employee Statia Winn. Together they are working to certify the monitoring process through the National Association of Home Builders Quality Assurance program.

Delaware North hired Kara Murtey as interpretive and environmental services manager to ensure everything in Plaza del Pasado in Old Town is as historically accurate as possible. She is also educating Delaware North employees on the park’s past, creating a self-guided audio tour for visitors and plans to make a film about Old Town to be played in a future theater planned for the park.

Bertrand has also been named a member of the affiliate’s board of directors and executive committee. Christina Simokat and Michael Kilpatrick were named community justice coordinators for the San Diego Mediation Center’s program in El Cajon, serving San Diego’s east county region. They are trained mediators available to community residents and businesses to address disputes of all kinds with mediation, facilitation or arbitration. Kilpatrick began mediating in 2004.

Tony Barr was been promoted to senior v.p. of operations for Coco’s and Carrows, Mark Fichtner to v.p. of operations for Carrows; and Ceci Eccles to director of training. Barranti is a 35-year restaurant industry veteran formerly with C&L Restaurant Group Inc., a franchisee of Burger King and Denny’s.
