Rick Hoffman

Rick Hoffman was named president and COO of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in San Diego/Inland Empire. After selling his successful Coldwell Banker Associates Realty last year to NRT Inc., parent company of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, Hoffman was a senior v.p. of the firm’s Inland Empire offices. He replaces Jill Morrow, who held the position for four years.

Alexsandra (Sandy) Rees was named president and CEO of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce. Rees previously served as the chamber’s director of development and marketing and was acting CEO prior to her appointment. Prior to joining the Chamber in August, Rees was director of Confia en Ti programs and public affairs for Interfaith Community Services in Escondido.

Phil Covington joined Colliers International as managing director of real estate management services. Prior to joining Colliers, Covington served for 10 years as president of San Diego-based Sequoia Real Estate Services where he oversaw venture funds for real estate investment and the management of commercial properties. In addition, for nine years he held various executive positions with Union Bank in San Diego for nine years.

McGraw/Baldwin Architects named Allan Trowbridge project architect and an associate of the firm. David Boyd was promoted to project architect. Trowbridge joined the firm in 1994 and has served as project architect for biomedical and advanced technology projects. Boyd joined the firm in 1996 as a senior job captain.

The San Diego office of Best Best & Krieger has added four attorneys: Eran M. Bermudez, Justin M. Booth, John P. Cleveland and T. Brooke Renzas Bermudez joins the BB&K’s schools group. She is a former law clerk for BB&K Booth was with the San Diego city attorney’s office in the civil and criminal divisions. At BB&K he will practice natural resources law. Cleveland joins the firm’s litigation practice. Before attending law school, Cleveland worked for several years in the financial services industry. Renzas was a summer associate at BB&K before joining the firm’s municipal law group. During law school, she was a judicial extern for the California Court of Appeal.

Andy Hewitt was named v.p. of business development, western region, for ICx Technologies Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based firm providing technologies that enhance homeland security. Hewitt, a native San Diegan and a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve, recently completed 18 months of duty in Iraq as the Marine Corps intelligence activity senior liaison to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.

He has been in construction more than 16 years and recently worked for Weisbecker Consulting Services. ROEL Construction’s Information Systems group hired Sarah Elliott as administrative assistant. Eric M. Johnson joined Equity National Funding Group Inc., a Carlsbad-based mortgage banking firm. Johnson, a loan consultant, has eight years of experience in residential, construction and commercial loans.

Bob Morris was named senior director of operations for Scripps Health Foundation to oversee corporate business operations that support fund-raising efforts for Scripps Health and its network local hospitals and clinics. Prior to joining Scripps Foundation, Morris was the vice president of development for the Alzheimer’s Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties. He also held director of development positions with the local chapter of the American Red Cross and Episcopal Community Services.

Jan Bast of San Diego was chosen president-elect of the National Council for Interior Design Qualification for 2006. She will serve as the council’s president in 2007. She is program director at Design Institute of San Diego and was formerly a partner in Bast-Wright Interiors. During her 20-year career as an interior designer, Bast has won many awards and is active in the American Society of Interior Designers. She was a 1992 graduate of LEAD San.

The San Diego Convention Center Corp. named Brad Gessner director of convention and event services and promoted DeeAnne Snyder to assistant director of convention services. Gessner is a 30-year industry professional and this is his return to the center. Before 1996, he was event services director and helped organize the opening of the original center in 1989. He most recently was general manager at West World of Scottsdale, and he is the former deputy general manager of the 360-acre Del Mar Fairgrounds and Racetrack. Before her promotion, Snyder was senior event manager. She has worked for the center for 13 years.

Rancho Bernardo resident Cynthia Black, with 11 years of special event management experience, was named the MS Walk director for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Pacific South Coast chapter. Prior to joining the MS Society, Black was a senior community director for the March of Dimes in Los Angeles, and was a special event supervisor for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Dallas and Los Angeles.

Turner Construction Co. promoted Jamie Awford to business unit manager. He has been in the construction industry for 16 years and joined Turner San Diego in 2003. Before that he was employed by Gilbane Building Co., where he served as senior business development manager for several years. New to the company is David Rift, who transferred from the Chicago Turner Construction operation and who has 15-plus years in construction. Connie Marshall was hired as human resources manager for the San Diego business unit of the company. Previously, she worked at Newgen Results Corp., where she held the same title. Also newly hired was Barry Lloyd as senior project manager for the county’s new skilled nursing facility in Santee. Lloyd has 22 years of experience, and was previously with Gilbane Building Co. in San Diego. Dan Plaine was promoted to accounting supervisor. He transferred to San Diego after eight years as a financial analyst at Turner’s San Jose Business s. Plaine was formerly the men’s freshman rowing coach at Santa Clara University.

Z. Gordon Davidson was named president of the California Golf Course Owners Association. Davidson has been involved with the nonprofit trade association for the last three years. He has worked in the golf industry for the last 15 years. He is certified in landscape irrigation, turfgrass management, pesticide application and is a certified arborist. Davidson formerly served as v.p. of business development and operations for International Golf Maintenance Inc. Davidson, a senior associate with CB Richard Ellis.

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases appointed former chair of Research at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Margery Deutz Perry of San Diego as a member of NIDDK’s advisory council. She will help advise the NIDDK about its research portfolio and provide second-level peer review of grant applications.

Jerry Buckley was named dean of the math, natural science and exercise science/wellness division at Grossmont College. He replaces the retired Bill Bradley, who was dean from 1999-2005. During his 15-year tenure, Buckley has been chair of the Planning and Budget Council and co-authored the Educational Master Plan Pilot Project. He is a professor of Cardiovascular Technology and received the Grossmont College President’s Leadership Award in 2005.

Jack in the Box Inc. named Lenny Comma regional v.p. for the company’s 150 Jack in the Box restaurants in Southern California and nearly 50 Quick Stuff convenience stores, each built adjacent to a full-size Jack in the Box and including a major-brand fuel station. Comma most recently served as division v.p. of convenience store/fuel operations for Jack in the Box Inc. Prior to joining Jack in the Box Inc. in 2001, Comma was regional manager for Exxon/Mobil, where he was responsible for supporting more than 300 franchisees in California, Nevada and Arizona.

Episcopal Community Services appointed James (Jake) Young as acting executive director. Young, a former principal at Deloitte & Touche, has been serving as interim CFO since September. Young will replace Interim CEO Elmer Lundy, who is retiring.
