As 92101 begins a new year, residential developers and housing executives are pausing to assess the success of 2005 and breathe a sigh of relief for what appears ahead.
Since 2001, 5,217 condominiums and 2,249 apartments have been completed to give Downtown 7,466 new residential units. Under construction are 3,206 condominiums and 689 apartments. Planned are an additional 5,675 condominiums and 1,802 apartments to house buyers drawn to the energy of Downtown living.
Predictions of those who build these units include a slowdown in activity and leveling of construction costs. Like a teenager testing adulthood, Downtown is dealing with a new stage of maturity. Developers are looking forward to being present for these changes.
For insight on how the housing market is likely to unfold in the Centre City this year, San Diego Metropolitan spoke with developers and urban housing executives. Their expectations are profiled throughout the Guide To Urban Living that unfolds across the following pages.
