Shop Talk With Michael Ramirez

What are your hobbies and relaxations?

Hiking, cycling and family activities. I’m a member of The Nice Guys of San Diego; the Rest and Aspiration Society, a networking group; and ARC (Association of Retarded Citizens) of San Diego.

Did you ever have a mentor and what did he/she teach you?

Tommy Thompson, a senior banking executive who I worked for at Southern California Bank. From a client relations perspective, he truly enjoyed his business and social interactions with his clients; there was mutual respect, trust and pride in the relationship. From a management standpoint, he taught me the value of hiring the best seasoned bankers who value their client relationships, are team players regardless of title and are fun to be around.

Five years from now, community banks…

…will continue to be an integral part of the San Diego business community. A well-managed community bank with local decision making and capacity provides an environment that allows a good seasoned banker to be flexible and responsive to the needs of the clients.

What keeps you up at night?

I sleep like a baby.
